I have found a job and start in November as i have to work my notice at my current job.
I have been receiving JSA (reduced amount), help with Council tax and tax credits while working as it wasn't alot of hours.
Now I am going to be working roughly 20hrs a week I thankfully can wave goodbye to JSA and the horrid soul destroying trips to sign on, but I think I will lose my help with council tax ( my friend works 20 hours and has to pay full whack) and get a reduction with tax credits.
I have worked out that by taking this new job I will be £160 WORSE off a month and if I have to pay full council tax somehow find an extra £119 a month.
I thought the gov said that people were better off working?
Does anyone know if this sounds right?
There is no way it will change my mind about the job as I will do anything to stop having to go to the job centre plus and made to feel like scum.

It does seem that all the rules are not applied to all the people.
A former colleague who was made redundant from the same company as me and who went onto work permanently where I worked on contract claimed jsa for the same 3 week period that I did.
She was added to her partners jsa claim, she did not have to sign on, she did not have to show that she had looked for work and payments were paid into her account automatically.
I asked her if she was told she had to look for work and keep a record as proof, she said she wasn't. Her circumstances are significantly different to mine and the payments received were considerably more.

Gina - probably on ESA or something, I have a friend she does not have to sign on or anything just gets the money each week in her bank account. She is on ESA, only has to go once a year and that takes about 5 mins then its like we will see you in another year.

I think it depends on what area you live in as my Daughter in law was on JSA for 3 months and she found a job, went to the job centre and told them that she will be starting in 2 weeks time, but she did not have to look for jobs etc whilst waiting to start this job.

I experienced nothing but rudeness and dirty looks when i used to attend The Jobcentre. They are soon quick to take your money but slow on handing it out. you sometimes have wait weeks for them to sort it out. Wait so long i found a job before i got it in two instances!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
