Cat help?.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me something. I have a cat and although yes i can be guilty of feeding too late at night early in the morning she is always being sick first thing. I know it sounds ridiculous but i thought a while back that she was actually making herself sick in order to get me to get up and feed her as she will make a big fuss of stalking round my bed and jumping on and off and generally letting me know she is up and wants to eat. Then she starts being sick if i do not get up if its too early?. I have started grooming her more as sometimes it seems it is not sick but hairballs, but she started being sick again this week after stopping for a while. Also the hot weather pobably does not help i think?. Could it be where i am giving her food too late at night?. Any cat lovers have any advice?.  Cat Sad  Cat Frustrated

Re: Cat help?.

Photobuckethairballs are a problem they normally make themselves sick to get rid

i got three and they all like different times to be fed but it,s all within 30 mins

6ish in the morning and 6ish at night and anything they can pinch of my plate

they have 1/3 of a tin each twice a day plus dry food cos they do,nt all like certain tins of food

fresh water

this heat is not helping but cats are fussy eaters anyway

Re: Cat help?.

Most of mine did that.  I think they get an acid stomach when they're hungry, and the usual advice is to leave food out overnight, so feeding late is fine.

The other thing it could be is their kidneys starting to go, which also gives them an acid stomach.  Most cats get this eventually, because they are obligate carnivores and need high-protein food.  Your vet could check for this with a blood test, and there are special "renal" foods you can buy if necessary (though most cats aren't impressed by most of them).

My own old cat's kidneys are going, and I have been putting a tiny (half a match-head) amount of bicarb in her meals and it seems to have reduced the number of times she throws up in the morning (but feeding her asap probably helps too).

Re: Cat help?.

Thanks i will also look on line. I just thought it was too much food but maybe as you say not the case. She is twelve , not old old but i know my old cat used to be sick everywhere and poo and she had insulin or kidney problem but she was eighteen when she passed sothat was old. It is mostly furballs and she is not a long haired cat. I have been grooming her more than i used to and her coat is less hairy so i thought she would stop throwing up but no. I know you can buy hairball stuff to give them too. Lots of ideas so thank you.
