over here on the east coast it has been more mild than usual
still have seen people with no coats, women (not young ones) in skimpy tops and floaty summmery dresses , ws going to type topless but mean shoulder/armless lol
temp has still be warm in the night, only been below 10 degrees once or twice in sept
i went to the door 5 mins ago, although was had a rain shower and it was cooler earlier this afternoon thr wind has still a warmth to it
its only really the early darkness that is draging us to feeling autumnal, plenty of colour in the trees, and they are only starting to drop leaves in the wind

Warm here too its been 15 or 16 degrees at night for the last couple of weeks, have only worn a coat because its been raining.
Hubby says he was reading it is supposed to be very cold and snowy at the end of the month. I won't hold my breath. I have noticed the leaves have been falling though.

Horrible here too captain and also on an amber flood warning, maybe that says something about the upcoming winter weather with both of us being North Walians

The rain has eventually stopped here - how long for is anybody's guess. This afternoon was terrible for the wet stuff. I hope that we don't have any of the white stuff this winter. I hate it.

If the old tales and folklore is anything to go by we are in for a harsh winter, loads of berries on the trees, blue flames in the open fire, geese returning. Most of these tales seem to have some truth in them, does anyone know of any more?

I think the berries have more to do with the summer we have had than the winter we might get. The geese are arriving here but they always do in October. Can you tell I am a sceptic! lol

I have to agree with others. In Kent it hasn't felt very autumnal. It's still mild, when the sun is out it's warm. We've had a few showers today, but it's still mild. Still wearing T shirts and sandals.
My garden is still looking colourful. It faces north east and always seems a few weeks behind. So still lots of flowers and looking pretty. My tomatoes have been very poor this year, we've only eaten 1!
Still have green ones on the plants but not holding out much hope of them ripening with the shortening daylight and facing NE.

Still raining here in Devon and incredibly warm for the time of the year, 20 degrees, bored now, bring on the cold.
I love the snow too, Warm boots, gloves, scarves silly woolly hats that you can only get away with when its snowing, you know the ones to embarrass your children with. Love it, even better if it happens when you aren't working, taking the dogs out to play in it, the eery?quiet that happens when it snows, oh and the conversations that go on for hours about the weather.

I love the snow too, and love kicking my feet in the fallen leaves; it was foggy this morning, love that too, as it has a sort of eerie quietness like when snow is falling too. Been very warm again for the time of year.

I was going to say the same as Maggie, I think the number of berries shows a good summer rather than a bad winter to come. I'm sceptical too, it must be something to do with age!!

exactly Ed....just how I think too I love the snow. Wish we had a dog to walk in it, It's great they way they chase about after a snowball and then haven't a clue where the snowball's gone
Don't they say if the moon's lying on it's back in the first quarter then it's going to be a cold winter, that seems true, and I guess the berry thing could have truth in it, as the birds would need them to survive. When we had the worst snow in our last house, the blackbirds stripped every single crab apple off the tree, I think it saved them.
