what this is? I think it might have something to do with sewing, maybe weaving?as it was found in a sewing box.
It has 'Patented USA Nov-91909' stamped inside the oval ring.
The curled over rings are movable and the spring comes off.

The inner is about 3.5" long x 2.5" wide

how big is it.i'm guessing about 4inches across
my guess is .it is for sewing something like stockings or stockingnett stuff and you use it a bit like a dolly bobbin.????

Could it be some sort of attatchment for an old knitting machine , im thinking it may fix onto something so the wool can feed through the loops /hooks ..............

I ahve had knitting machines & have never seen anything remotely like that. It's a really strange thing!

the top hook attaches to a dog collar chain
the 2nd 2 are for nipple clamps to be attached
the next to are for wrist restraints
and the spring is so the last one reaches **cough** nether regions**cough

But why would you want to put that on your dog?

Yep, as I thought - Anastasia sneaked it out of the red room!

Its not for holding bits of thread or wool so that they do not tangle or anything is it???. OOoeerrr it looks a bit strange to me LOL.

We think it could be for darning or embroidery, if you put material over the oval ring then put the spring over the ring it holds it in place with the spare material clamped with the hooks!
I am going to see an elderly friend tomorrow who still makes clippie mats...she might know;)
