in America, at a church meeting.
Surely the time has come for some sort of legislation to reduce the number of guns there and to make it more difficult to obtain a licence to have one or in some cases more than one.

But with the number of fire arms over there, if someone is intent on slaying people, not having a licence isn't going to stop them.
I don't know how they're going to try and stop this. Perhaps drugs (the taking of them or the trying to obtain them) are more the cause of the killings than the guns themselves. 😞

As I have always maintained CG, guns do not kill people ! People kill people be it with a gun, a knife, a blunt instrument or bare hands.
The authorities seem to be putting this down to a hate crime which I think will only put more coals on the fire so to speak.

Well seeing as one of the people who was in the church said the shooter said
"You **bleep** our women and you're taking over our country. And you have to go," I would think hate crime sums it up

Actually I would dispute that to the extent that the use of a gun as opposed to other weapons is more likely to lead to deaths.
Sandy Hook attacker with guns, 28 dead 2 injured.
On the same day in Chengpeng village school China, attacker armed with a knife, 0 deaths 24 injured.

No one is disputing a gun can be and is more lethal than a knife but both can be weapons of slaying. Even a syringe full of air can be a lethal weapon as can nuts to someone with an allergy.
