I used to be with TT. However, after the TT hacking and when the scamming phone calls took off, I began getting them like "There is a problem with your router...." When one chap phoned and said I had a problem, I told him I knew he was a scammer and I didn't have a problem. He replied "You have now".
A month or so later I got a letter from TT "We're sorry you want to leave us......" In the end, I did leave TT.
I've had no end of calls from the scammers and I keep blocking their numbers. Then the hacked list gets sold on and another bunch start so I block them and so it goes on.
This morning I got another but this one ran like "Hello, I'm calling from your internet service provider, talk-talk".
Just to see what he came up with, I said "I'm not with talk-talk."
"Who is your sevice provider?"
"I'm not telling you."
He asked twice more and again I told him "I'm not telling you".
Then he asked for me by name so I said I was the Police and that we're trying to locate the scammers who're either trying to get financial details or drop a virus on computers.
It didn't put him off, he kept trying to insist I was with TT. I can't remember the next bit but after that he said he would have to disconnect me from the internet. I said "Go on then". He tried again and I told him "Go on then". He said if he disconnected me I wouldn't be able to connect with any other service provider. Again, I told him, "Go on then". He then kept asking me for my name, I told hin to get lost.
It seems that when one bunch of scammers has exhausted the supply of victims, another lot seem to take over. Is there nothing anyone can do to put an end to the nuisance apart from what I do, block the number?

I'd not had a call for months so I thought they'd stopped. ***Wrong***. Just had a new one. A recorded message this time. "Your internet is about to be disconnected. Press 1 for something, press 2 for something else" No chance pal.

Heck, they're still at it. Just had another call from "The Technical Department of Talk-Talk......" An automated recording on about my internet is about to be disconnected....... No number displayed, just a row of dots.
I wonder how many times that list of users has been used for scams, sold on, used, sold on......? It's a bit out of date after all these years?

That does sound annoying, CD.
I stopped answering my telephone ages ago. One of the best things I've ever done, although I realise that it wouldn't suit everyone. A shame I need a landline for affordable broadband here - and there's always the thought that family might need me to get in touch (I do occasionally check the answering machine.)
It's interesting. If you never answer, people - and robots - seem to lose interest and stop ringing. A winning situation!
Glad I left Talk Talk when they were still Tiscali. They contacted me to say that they were becoming Talk Talk, and welcome to their wonderful new billing system. I had to dig to establish that I was also facing a massive price increase for no obvious benefit to me...
Let's face it. Any provider could be hacked. A hazard of twenty-first century life, I suppose.
Let's hope the latest pests stop annoying you soon.

Hiya, I had another call after that. This morning I had one purporting to be BT!!!

The TT scam calls seem to have stopped now but I'm now getting calls purporting to be from Amazon about my "account".
I don't have an Amazon account. I suppose they're using some sort of list? Failing that are they calling numbers at random (computer generated?) ?
It's a recorded message, I don't listen to the whole message, as soon as Amazon is mentioned, I hang up!

No phone calls here lately, but I do have an anonymous caller bar on my phone (a free service from TalkTalk - I'm one of those afflicted by inertia ). However, my friend had an Amazon-related email into his Yahoo address and I had 2-3 "health" emails into my Tiscali address with "helpful" links in them.
Sympathy, CeeDee, phone calls are such a dang nuisance

Just had another "Hi, this is a call from Amazon"..... No it ******* isn't. and put the phone down!

I had a new one early this morning telling me my Talk-Talk account was "being terminated due to non-payment..."
Pity they don't terminate those scammers?
I see BA have been fined millions due to a data breach, it's a pity TT got away with a fine of a few hundred thousand? Since it happened, I think the list of phone numbers must have been sold and re-sold umpteen times for a new bunch of scammers to try their luck every time?

I just checked the number that last scammer is purporting to be from, it's some sort of beauty treatment place in Ipswich.
How do they manage to clone a phone number?
If I block that number, the legitimate user of that number will be blocked but the scammer will still get through because their REAL number is something else?

This is`nt just a talktalk scam, i`m currently getting half a dozen phone calls a week telling me my router is faulty and needs to be replaced, which it clearly doesn`t. My guess would be, that the scam is that you have to pay for the new router to be delivered, they take payment over the phone and that`s the last you hear, so if anyone gets these calls, hang up!
The phone number they use changes every week and dosen`t come up on any searches, but the code does link to India (what a surprise).

Yes, I've had the same scam purporting to be BT or Virgin.
What's happened is the list of numbers they hacked off TT is being continually sold on/passed around.
If you were foolish enough to pass on your payment details, they wouldn't just take "the payment", they'd empty your account.

Heck, a few minutes ago, they're still at it. Chinese sounding voice "......... calling from the technical department of Talk-Talk, how are you today?"
I said "I was fine until a scammer phoned me" and put the phone down.
