I listed my Raleigh eBike on eBay. It's a Raleigh, not some unbranded dodgy import. Weeks after listing it I get sent a very accusatory email and eBay message stating that I've broken selling listing rules and the item has been removed. The first message was very vague, unsafe products/product recalls. Only after I appealed did the message state it was because it was an eBike and I'm not a Business seller. Both were very heavy handed. I was not aware of the rule change and had no issues listing it in the first instance. No fair enough, if eBay want to get all 'nanny state' on us, but please apply the rule properly! So many of the eBikes that 'Business' sellers are listing are unbranded dodgy imports. Why can't eBay have a system that recognises real brands and distinguishes the tat?
Plus to add to the insult, my listing that they removed can't be deleted from my list of items for sale!
Rant over.

I cannot disagree that some eBay messages don't convey the true picture of the issue, and yes, they do come across sometimes sounding somewhat rude.
End of the day because of the recent dangers with some e bikes catching fire, eBay have deemed it that only Business sellers should sell these items so that they are Brand New and come with guarantees.
If those sellers are selling faulty items, buyers are covered by eBay's 30 day MBG Money Back Guarantee policy. If a seller is then seen to be making to many refunds / accepting returns this raises red flags to eBay and they apply sanctions even full selling bans for those sellers.

And yet, there are loads of private sellers currently selling respectable brand ebikes and leads of registered sellers selling dodgy tat ebikes!

This is eBay.
If you want logic and consistency, you're in the wrong place.

Yep, and that's because the site is massive, over 7 billion listings on at any one time, so impossible to check each and every one, so some do slip the net and become listed.
Once they are spotted and reported like yours was, if they break a selling regulation, they too will be removed.
eBay also rely on members to report items, there's a report ? mark, bottom right of every listing, to lead you to the Report option.

Have a look at the category, are they in the right one? Sellers often get round restrictions by cheating.
