I would like to be able to understand why/how eBay thinks it's helpful to have a recent or relevant feedback option.?? I can't get my head around  that from the options eg posistive, neutral or negative eBay thinks one of these is relevant but to what?

Surely all we need is the most recent.

Maybe it's difficult to fathom because you have 100% positive feedback. Take for example someone who did have 100% but just received one negative out of 1000 positive. By weighting 'most relevant' over most recent, eBay can show new Buyers their normal feedback, at first glance. Buyers who are interested can dig down to the odd Negative.
