Hi everybody!
The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.
Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!
Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.
To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.
Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.
If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!
Many thanks,
Your eBay Community Team

This question is asked every week, but never answered.
Could you PLEASE clarify whether packages which Royal Mail designates as “Large Letters” are, or are not required to be sent using Simple Delivery.
Please don’t just direct me to the online guidance because 1) it’s incredibly vague, and 2) it keeps changing.
We all know about the 100g limit, and the £10 limit, but the “Letter” / “Large Letter” confusion is still going on, after weeks of speculation.
As you (eBay, not you personally) have missed your latest deadline for all private sellers to be forced to use SD, we don’t have real-life examples to rely on. Different users are experiencing different outcomes.
Please clear this up. It really should not be difficult to do so, If eBay hasn’t yet decided what’s going to happen, at least let us know.
Thank you.

My account still hasn’t been transferred over to Simple Delivery and whilst I do not want to be part of this, if it is to be mandatory then why is the rollout taking so long – eBay have said it was to be complete by the 28th April. What is the latest on timings for this?
30-04-2025 2:02 PM
I’ve sent several small parcels using Simple Delivery and have noticed that as soon as the label is printed the item is marked as dispatched! This is very deceptive, misleading for the buyer and potentially resulting in problems for the seller. I’ve had to message the buyers saying that the item isn’t yet dispatched, but that eBay have introduced a problematic change. I then have to message again to let them know when I have actually posted the item. Can you inform management and development that this needs to change. Only the seller should be able to mark items off as dispatched.

Why is there still no ‘2 – 5kg’ or at least ‘2 – 10kg’ option under Simple Delivery? I used to send about a third of my items using medium parcel, with items usually being 2.5 – 4 kg. Currently the price with Royal Mail goes up from £3.44 to over £10! I’ve de-listed all of my items that are over 2kg.

I had a buyer yesterday who could not pay for the item as he is in Jersey Channel Islands. I do not have Jersey CI excluded from my locations. I only use Royal Mail so it is not a courier issue. I have cancelled and relisted the item (after first advising him I would do this so he could try again). Is this due to the Simple Delivery process or some other issue? Royal Mail charge the same for Jersey as the rest of UK. Please advise how best to proceed with future transactions from CI?

Hi @andreparr14 ,
It's been done on a gradual ramp up basis for the month of April. With any new mandatory services like this it is made available on accounts gradually rather than every account at the same time. If your account has not been included as mandatory then it will be included in the next few days.
Thank you,
Kat

Thanks Kat - and will I get some sort of confirmation from eBay that this has happened??

Hi vinylscot, thanks for your question.
Yes, if Simple Delivery kicks in, and Royal Mail designates it as "Large Letter", then you would need to send it using Simple Delivery. Otherwise, you'd need to send it in the old way.
The reason why you're seeing different scenarios is because items, locations, services may vary from time to time depending on the transaction.
Thank you,
Marco

SUGGESTED CATEGORIES ON LISTING AN ITEM
Has anyone else noticed a change in the last month or so with the `suggested categories` when listing a new item. THESE SUGGESTIONS WERE WORKING VERY WILL UNTIL AROUND END OF MARCH AND WERE PROBABLY 98% ACCURATE BEFORE…NOW THEY ARE ABOUT 2% ACCURATE.
A typical example….
Item title…..
5 x BARBARA STREISAND VINYL LP RECORD ALBUMS 1970s
(click on `Change category` and this is what you now get…..
Suggested
Coins > Coins > World > Latin America/Caribbean
Coins > Coins > World > Asia
Crafts > Needlecrafts & Yarn > Crocheting & Knitting > Other Crocheting & Knitting
WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH …A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Whatever has been changed needs to be undone, if its using AI then just scrap it!

What are ebay doing in regards to the European Accessibility Act which is coming into effect in June to make digital platforms accessible for all in the EU which from my understanding will include NI

Thank you marco@ebay
Although the reason I'm seeing different scenarios is because you keep changing the wording on the info pages.

Hi @andreparr14 ,
There is 2-10kg option available under Simple Delivery. It was introduced when the service was mandatory on accounts. If your account is not yet mandatory then this would be why you are not seeing it as an option.
Thank you,
Kat

Are there further announcements/messages due from eBay regarding Simple Delivery being mandatory as some accounts are still having custom postage option available ??
30-04-2025 2:14 PM
Why when ending multi variation listings and then sell similar does ebay include sold/out of stock items when relisting? Causing problems due to out of stock items now showing as in stock again.
When relisting hundreds of items it is very time consuming having to click in and out of multi variation listings checking each and every one.

Hi @andreparr14 ,
There won't be any confirmation. When you no longer have the customer postage option and are only able to use simple delivery then it will be mandatory on the account.
Thank you,
Kat

Hi @andreparr14
Obviously we don't want any of the processes to be misleading but I can understand how it could be an issue for you. It's possible that this was just a result of the integration of SD into the site. I'll pass your feedback over to the team that deal with it to see of it's something that could possibly be changed as part of a future update.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi caerleon1959, thanks for your question.
It'd be hard to know exactly without reviewing, but if you only have Royal Mail enabled as the carrier, and they definitely ship there, I don't think this would be related to Simple Delivery, but maybe something else. If you confirm the item number, I can take a look for you when I have a chance.
Thank you,
Marco

Hi Dave
I would appreciate it if you can pass this on - as it is misleading and causing extra work for sellers.
Thanks
Andrew

Thanks for your reply, vinylscot. I see where you're coming from, so I will take note of this and pass it on to the relevant team.
