Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 27.08.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

I would for a change just like to give a big helping hand to the customer service team - who I have asked to have PACKLINK investigated, due to the way they have been treating many sellers who have used the old postage system (correctly might I add) before simple delivery. Where they have trying to be fraudlent in the way they are asking for extra charges - and saying thier machinces have been callibrated correctley and your 750g parcel is in fact weighing between 1200g and 1900g. Poppycock.

They have been found out, they are trying to charge sellers an extra £3.18 on top of the 2.94 which has allready been paid for the Evri deliverys. I have proof on every single one of the postage I send and have sent to Packlink.

This has been going on for many months with differt sellers - I am realy glad that one of the customer service team took this further - so for once Can you please pass my gratidue on to the cs team for a job well done.

Hi @phillsvinyl

Thanks for the above. I'll check with CS to find who you were speaking to and pass this on to their leadership team.

Ive also set it over to our shipping team so they are fully aware.

Thanks,

Dave

Why have i just been charged £2.70 for postage ?

It should only be a large letter - as its less than £10.00

Hi @phillsvinyl

If you want to PM me the details of the transaction I'll ask the shipping team to review what happened.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,

When sending out offers to people who start watching an item or view it, it appears that you cannot send out further offers to subsequent watchers/viewers until the original offer has expired? I am sure that this was not the case until recently.

Many thanks

Hi phillsvinyl, thanks for your question.

Can you confirm the item number, so we can look into it?

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 27.08.25 @2pm

Hi Dave,

Are you saying the policy team (a human) checks each report or are some done by AI?

I know you cant really say much but as eBay is not a court of law they do not need to be 100% sure an account is a business, why are eBay siding with a possible account breaking the law over making sure every customer on eBay has the correct rights when buying on the site?

The reporting system is not fit for purpose, I know you say we need to use 'Other' as an option but thats really not acceptable, if I buy from private accounts who are most likely businesses I'm paying for bpf which is pretty fraudulent as I get zero additional protection than if they were correctly registered.

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 27.08.25 @2pm

Good afternoon team,

I am seeing issues with the compatibility tool.

I have checked a listing and a KTM Adventure 890 2024 is not in the compatibility in the listing.

So I have checked the compatibility when editing the listing and it is in there??

This is the listing
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282848112330

So I have edited the listing to remove and add the bike again and it is still not there.

When I jump back in to edit the listing, it is still there??

282848112330.jpg

So I have used the eBay compatibility tool by adding the bike to my garage in the listing on a PC and it says it is not compatible??

282848112330_1.jpg

But it is in the vehicle list in the listing when editing...

When I check the listing revisions by clicking on the revisions button, it says it has not been edited since Nov 2024

But at the top of the item specifics, it says it was edited today??

282848112330_2.jpg

Any help appreciated, as listing vehicle parts is already 1000 times more difficult than selling clothing or whatnot, so quite ridiculous that it doesn't even work.

Cheers
Russ

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 27.08.25 @2pm

I signed into my private account yesterday. This was one of the first things I saw:

technthread_0-1756301711940.jpeg

eBay referring to managing businesses on the private account pages doesn’t help with the confusion on the private / business account topic. It does seem as if in some ways it is actively encouraged.

The point I would like to make here for feedback is there are smaller business sellers who just sell part time a few hours a week and pay fees into eBay’s coffers when they could easily move to a private account or just leave to a competitor zero fee site. I’m wavering and I know others who feel the same. eBay could do a lot more to redress the balance surely? We don’t get anything.

Hi @pauuk.35za36

Offers are sent to the 30 most recent watchers or users who have added your items to their basket. The offer is then valid for 96 hours or until the listing is sold, whichever comes first.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for your reply, phillsvinyl.

The option to opt out and select Custom postage instead of Simple Delivery will be available for letter-sized items in the specific categories below that are priced £10 and under. It looks like when the item was listed, you didn't opt out, which is why the transaction went through with Simple Delivery.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi phillsvinyl, thanks for your question.

I can definitely pass on your feedback around this, but like we always say, please note that this doesn't necessarily means that changes around this will be made.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @technthread

I can see how that might cause confusion alright!

I'll send this post over to he site to review.

Thanks,

Dave
