Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.05.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.05.25 @2pm

Since it was confirmed by your Chief Commercial Officer in a speech at the recent Edinburgh Road Show (maybe he said more than he should have, but he did say it), and heavily trailed in the incredibly loaded “survey” sent to some business sellers on Monday, the cat is now out of the bag. eBay intends to extend Simple Delivery to (at least some) Business Sellers.

Please don’t insult our intelligence with the usual “there are no plans” non-answer. We now know that not to be the case.

Could you please let us know the proposed timetable for this utterly ridiculous and unwelcome development.

Thank you.

Hi @vinylscot

Unfortunately we weren't at the roadshow so I can't comment on what was said. As it stands, we haven't been made aware of any plans to roll SD out to business sellers so I can give you an answer other than that.

I'll reach out to the roadshow team and if I can get any sharable info from them, I'll pass it on to you.

Thanks,

Dave

Thank you, but the heavily-loaded survey also made eBay's plan pretty transparent, did it not?

Hi @vinylscot

I haven't seen the survey but its possibly just the teams gathering feedback. I've passed your feedback from here over to the guys and I see there was another thread on it which I will also share.

Thanks,

Dave

dave@ebay

How much notice will sellers be given SHOULD this posting change happen?

What compensation arrangements will ebay take with outstanding Shipping contracts Sellers have with shipping companies?

Are ebay allowed to modify scheduled listings to accommodate any changes, since sellers are responsible for listings ?

Thanks dave@ebay

I suspect rather a lot of sellers will be eagerly awaiting real answers on this, so I hope you do manage to find something out. Apart from anything else, that would stop it being brought up in every weekly chat from now on.

Hi @a45heaven

I'm not aware of any plans to introduce this change so I can't answer questions on any hypothetical scenarios.

We wouldn't have any information on 3rd party contracts so its not something I can address. Generally speaking though, we don't offer compensation for any issues you may have.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.05.25 @2pm

Hi and good afternoon, thanks for the chance to chat.

On my "All Selling" page, in my ebay there is a column "OFFERS", it now no longer seems to show which listings have offers whether declined or other.

To know if an offer had been made, even if declined was very handy, as quite often an offer would be made a pound or so below my auto decline setting, then I would then reduce the auto decline setting to that of the offer and contact the person who made it and ask them to make the same offer again usually with a successfull sale.

I know there is a way of checking on the items' own page but this is time consuming having to go through to the manage offers page. Thanks in advance

Kind Regards Charlie

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.05.25 @2pm

Why is there so much push for sellers to promote their listings?

It is there when you log on to seller dashboard in big nasty coloured banners

It is there when you click create a listing - reach more buyers by promoting your listings

It is there when you list an item - Drive sales by boosting your listing into more visible positions.

Messages from eBay - don't miss out on your discount get 50%  off promoted listings!! discount? surely it is just me giving more money to eBay so not sure how discount comes in to it!

What next someone jumping out from behind the sofa with a megaphone when you are listing - Don't forget to promote your listing!!

It is too much, It doesn't need to be splashed everywhere. I don't and won't promote, I pay to list so therefore should be see, I don't expect to have to pay for that too!!

Sales have dropped, more so since BPF and simple delivery was introduced for private sellers, maybe eBay should be doing more to keep business sellers, instead of having the begging bowl out at every opportunity

Hi krafty-kreations, thanks for your post.

We've always suggested to promote listings, but as usual, this is only optional. I understand that you don't like the way it is being advertised, so I will pass this is on, so thanks for letting us know about this.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @cz1266 ,

Thank you for the feedback on this. It was a change in design. While there isn't any plans to have it changed back I will share your points with our development team.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @dantwocats ,

Can you provide the item number for this transaction your are referring to?

All the information regarding Simple Delivery is on the help page here

Re: Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 14.05.25 @2pm

Dear team,

this question is purely out of curiosity.

There’s been a few threads on the boards about hatching eggs listings being removed as it is against eBay’s rules.
Why then is there a category and sub category available to list in?

Surely if it’s against the T&C’s it shouldn’t be available.

Hi @bojangled

This usually happens when there is an update to a policy for items that were previously allowed. The policy gets updated and the site update gets put in a queue to be actioned. Sitewide updates aren't run straight away, they will usually run with other updates so depending on when they went into the queue and what was required to update them, you might not see the update for several months.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi @dantwocats

Thank you for that, I'll have it reviewed. I understand your points regarding Simple Delivery and we will continue to share this feedback with our shipping team.

Thank you,

Hi @vinylscot

I spoke to the Roadshow team about this. Simple Delivery was spoken about as the new way that c2c sellers will ship their items, however business sellers will continue to have the flexibility to ship items in a way of their choosing. However in response to interest from some business sellers we are exploring whether we can make Simple Delivery also available for business sellers, on an voluntary opt in basis.

It's possible the survey you shared was sent to gauge business seller interest in this option, to warrant any further exploration by the business. As I'm sure you can imagine, with a site this big, even small changes can mean a lot of work and time to implement. We send surveys to better understand the needs of our customers, so we can ensure feedback like yours is heard.

If you would like to give any direct feedback, I can send it to our Roadshow team who compile direct verbatim from sellers and help ensure they get where they need to go.

Thanks,

Dave
