Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 05.11.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

 

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

 

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

 

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay, marco@ebay and dave@ebay. Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.

Hi,

 

Hope all are well on this great Wednesday.

 

Can you please pass onto the relevant department that many eBay users are being scammed by fake items, then when they report the selling account for selling fakes are told that the account is not breaking any policies. This occurs even though the account has multiple negative feedbacks for selling fakes, its a shame that eBay don't allow users to highlight this prior to other users actually purchasing a many wont know they are fakes until too late if they are purchasing as presents for family members for Christmas but the AI sadly just isnt good enough as it currently stands in my opinion for the reporting feature to be seen as working as designed. 

 

I know the VeRO programme is a thing on eBay but in my opinion that should be the last line of defence, eBay should really be acting before that even needs to be used when multiple reports are placed and negative feedback is left, as these sellers for proof of purchase from the supplier and please don't just sit back and allow many of your loyal and long term users be scammed and ruin multiple Christmases when presents are given and they are found to be fake and outside of the 30 day money back guarantee.

Just a quickish question from me regarding Automated Feedback. Can I ask if Automated Feedback also includes automated 5 stars on the Detailed Seller Ratings? If not, is this something which could be considered please? 

 

I only ask as I have recently dipped below 5 stars on 'Accurate Description', and with so few sales, and even fewer buyers leaving feedback, it feels as though it will take the full 12 months to get back to my 5/5 stars. I work really hard to provide accurate, comprehensive descriptions, along with multiple photos, so it's a bit disappointing that one or more buyers feels that this isn't the case. Or maybe I provide too much information? It does seem sometimes that sellers who provide one, blurry photo, and whose description reads only as: "see photos", fare much better on the DSRs 😆

Thank you for the feedback. I understand where your coming from on this. As eBay doesn't have the actual items in their possession it can be challenging when it comes to counterfeit items.

These are good points you have raised and I will share these as feedback for review on the reporting/action taken for counterfeits.

I don't believe the DSRs update with the feedback but I'll have to get confirmation on that. Leave it with me for a bit and I'll get confirmation. 

 

If its definitely not the case I'll ask the team to look into it as an option.

I understand that eBay never see the item but there is a pile of evidence in the form of negative feedback from multiple buyers and INAD returns then reports (which get dismissed as not breaking any policy) v absolutely nothing from the seller side it does to me at least look like eBay are taking the side of the seller. I know I have mentioned this before but eBay are not a court of law, they do not need to be 100% sure, but they should be 100% looking after their loyal users and using the line sorry we never see the item theres very little we can do to me at least seems like a meh thats not our problem.

 

Its a challenge but in my opinion it seems eBay dont want to face upto the challenge as they very rarely seem to act before hundreds/thousands of buyers are scammed. 

 

I do thank you for passing this back to the relevant team I just hope they will do something before Christmas 2026 as the current stance means many hundreds of presents this life will opened and found they are fake but outside of the mbg, which only increases the speed that eBay loses its vital loyal users.

Ive had confirmation that the DSRs do not update with the automated feedback. I have asked the team to look into it as possibility for a future improvement.
