Has anyone managed to get past the age verification issue at the moment.
I am trying to buy a canteen of cutlery. I need to verify my age with a credit card.
I go to the verification page and get an error and am told to contact customer support. I have contacted and had 54 different responses none of which have worked.

Hi @eqcons ,
Thank you for your reply.
Sorry to hear of this experience with customer support when you tried to report the issue. If you can share the item number that you were trying to purchase that got the error message on I will get it added to the ticket here with tech. Getting a timeline of the resolution is outside of our control here. Tech are working on it and we will continue to follow up with them.
Thank you,
Kat

Despite much ongoing discussion, argument and appeals, the Knife policy restriction still appears for any item considered to have a sharp edge. point or a cutting blade (including hedge clippers, lawnmowers, handsaws etc.) ---
Currently only a ( monthly payment ) Credit Card entry to confirm your age is acceptable to eBay --- nothing else will do !! --- an everyday use Debit Card will not be accepted.

Thanks Kat. Item number isn't the problem - it is the same with any bladed item. I know you say "Tech are working on it" - but as you know it's been a problem since at least last October!
Item number is 232309176031

Hi @eqcons ,
I understand the error is coming up with bladed items, its just helpful to have item number examples so tech can replicate. Thank you for the example. I'll get it added to the ticket.
Thank you,
Kat

Hi Kat,
Both my wife and I are also experiencing this error. It’s very frustrating, particularly given we’re trying to buy normal cutlery, not blades. Is there any workaround?
I’d also like to flag that it’s incredibly annoying that your customer service agents have no awareness of this bug and the only way to find out it’s a known issue is by searching the forum.

Hi @rlennox ,
Thank you for your reply.
I'll flag your experience for reporting the issue with customer support for training purposes. There isn't a workaround at the moment as the only way age verification can be processed for bladed items is through the credit card process. I'll get your account added to the ticket which is being worked on by tech. Once there is any further updates from tech I will update the thread.
Thank you,
Kat

HI Kat
Can you add my account too.
I can't bid anything for over week now. I've added credit card, basically option CONTINUE doesn't work.
Thank you

Hi All,
Just to update that tech are continuing to work on resolving this. They have advised American Express (AMEX) cards are not supported for the UK age-verification step and to retry using a Visa or Mastercard instead. If you have already tried with a Visa or Mastercard and still receive the same error message please let me know so I can report this back to tech.
Thank you,
Kat

As in my original post, Kat, I tried a Visa credit, a Mastercard credit, and two Amex. Visa/MC fail exactly in the same way.

Seems unfair given the card is literally only being used for verification, not actual payment.
I get sites don't accept AMEX due to the higher fees AMEX charges on transactions - but there isn't even a payment taking place here - just a verification. An AMEX card would still prove age - its just limiting an already limited process quite unfairly
If ebay won't accept it - at least remove the AMEX logo from the page!

Hi @jonatjonatjonat ,
This is auto generated from the payment processor side rather than eBay design but you raise a fair point. I'll feed that back to the team.
Thank you,
Kat

As per the other response, I tried this with a visa, Mastercard and an Amex and experienced the same failure across all three. It would be great if the tech team could look at the logs from our sessions to investigate and resolve the error.
