I recently purchased an electrical item from Japan and wished to cancel it (due to voltage differences which were not clear from the listing).
My cancellation request was declined despite the item not having been sent.
eBay customer service said to return the item when it had arrived. Sender has been totally unresponsive to my messages in the interim to cancel the transaction.
The item was sent today, 7 days after my cancellation request was declined.
I've received a note from DHL about customs fees. What's the best way to proceed here please:
1. Do not pay DHL fees and DHL returns item to sender (leaves me open to postage charges/inward customs charges to Japan?)
2. Pay the DHL fee and arrange a return (seller apparently offers free 60 day returns and it's covered by ebay protection)
The latter seems like the logical route but I do not trust the sender. Appreciate I should have been more careful originally.

if you fail to pay the [DHL fees] import duty you will lose buyer protection, meaning losing the item and your money.

Option 2. *but* please be aware that the ebay protection only lasts 30 days. The seller says 60 days, but ebay are not going to hold them to it!

Aw, thanks both for the quick response. I think I'll play ball then.
I've already raised a return request so if I'm not getting traction within the 30 day period then assume I just get ebay to step in?
