Sellers Item Description States Cheaper Price Than Listing

Hi guys.

I wonder if any of you have come across a problem that i have?

Ive been looking for a chemical adhesive remover fluid & found a seller who had what i needed.

I looked through their listing & found something strange.

In Red on their Sellers Description section, there was written "OUR PRICE £4.95 25% OFF RRP", the problem with that though is 1/ their Buy It Now price was £7.99 free post & packing & 2/ Because i 'Watched' this item the seller offered me a 'DISCOUNT' of £0.35. So the Buy It Now price would be £7.64. Thats a whole £2.99 more than their description of RRP said.

Yes i know i could just walk away & find another seller but the principle of this, from what i have read in eBay T & C's is 'Price Gouging' or inflating a price to suit demand. That goes against eBays terms.

I have reported this but my report has been rejected due to the automation system not finding a problem.

I am going to appeal this because ive taken screenshots of the listing & i think the automation did not understand what i was trying to explain.
Has anyone else come across an issue like this?

Sounds like they have simply forgotten to update the description when they put their price up.

It's not price gouging.

Free post and packing doesn't actually mean it is free to the seller. £2.99 sounds about right for the postage.

Have you tried contacting the seller directly about this issue using the Contact Seller option?  If the seller has made a genuine mistake then he/she may well revise the listing so that the Buy It Now price matches the part of the listing that states "25% of RRP".  Alternatively, if the offer no longer applies the seller may revise the listing and delete the part that says "25% off RRP" in the item description and leave the Buy It Now price at the higher amount.  If the seller has made a genuine mistake then he/she may well reply to your message to clarify after correcting the listing, especially if it occurs to him/her that the error may well be costing him/her sales.  On the other hand, if the seller thinks you're just picking holes in the listing then he/she may not even bother replying and may possibly add your User ID to his/her Blocked Bidders List.  Whatever the case, I still think it would be best to try and clarify this with the seller first, just in case he/she has made a genuine mistake and hasn't spotted the error, rather than snitching on the seller to eBay.

Its not an item that is a necessity, Only items such as facemasks during the covid pandemic and suchlike  come under price gouging. Therefore its not price gouging

Like Papso22 said they have more than likely updated the pricing and forgot to change the description

Yeah i know that. Ive sold things myself & absorbed the cost of post etc. My gripe is about the inflated price of an item that is listed £3.00 more than the exact same thing they have in another listing.

I'm probably not explaining it very well.

The seller has 2 identical items for sale. The products are the same & the quantity is the same.

Their one listing which is older has a Buy It Now price of £5.95. The other listing has a Buy It Now price of £7.99.

In the sellers description section they have mentioned that it was once on sale for £4.95.

So in a short space of time the items have increased in price quite substantially. Oh & this isn't a Private Seller. It is a VAT registered company.

Yeah. Ive reached out because it could be a genuine error. It's been a week now & nothing has changed, no response from them either to me although they are active because they are leaving Feedback for buyers.

I thought this initially but there's been no acknowledgement to my message. I do know they are active because they are leaving feedback to buyers.

The Seller may have had an offer on (25% discount Off RRP maybe due to the expiry date) for a short period of time then returned it to the higher price with new stock & overlooked removing the 25% discount from the description.

When I had a look at chemical adhesive removers on sale on eBay at the moment, there are not many under £7.99.

Postage prices are gone up with certain Couriers, this may be a factor in the increase.

I've looked at items myself that were at good price, but as I would not be available for delivery I did not buy, & when I went back to buy 4 or 5 days later the item had gone up, this happens.
