Is this some sort of scam? We paid for the item about 3 days ago, but the seller still has not dispatched the item. Instead this morning, we noticed the seller has refunded £1.50 which is a fraction of the total cost (about £60) with no explanation. What could be a case here?
The item is due to arrive from tomorrow to Friday. This is very strange.

Mmm, that is a bit odd.
Those dates for delivery are just eBay's estimates, so worth waiting a few days past the last estimated date for delivery. If the item does not arrive open a case for item not received, and escalate on day 4 if not refunded beforehand.
If there is an issue receiving a full refund which you are entitled to, because strangely a partial refund has already been made, then contact eBay Customer Services, and inform them what has happened here.
This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

Automated agents will be available on chat outside of the above hours.
I recommend contacting CS first thing in the morning as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

Most likely (I can think of) is the postage cost less than they had thought, or they had added extra just in case you were in a remote area which cost more.
(On the rare occasions I've done similar, I message the buyer.)
It doesn't really affect anything AFAIK - the item will either turn up or not. If it doesn't, raise a case to get the rest of the money back (subject to eBay's t&cs).
