Seller messages he sent wrong item

Bought 2 items on eBay.   They are both marked as dispatched, and tracking shows they are with the courier.  But the seller messages to say that he sent wrong item.  He still has the item we bought.

What is the best way to resolve this situation?

When you receive the wrongly dispatched item,  you open a case for item not as described.... Item Does Not Match Description or Photos.

The seller then has 3 days to accept the case and pay for the return postage label.  You post it back,  and the seller has 48 hours to refund you.  If they don't for whatever reason,  you escalate the case,  eBay step in and force the refund.

Meanwhile they should send you the correct item.

Thank you for your explanation of the process.   We are hopeful that we will receive the right item we bought, because the seller messaged and told us that wrong item was sent.  We hope it will sort out ok, but just in case wondered how the process works.
