Seller instantly refused faulty item return

I purchased a Pixel 7 from a business seller. As I was busy, I only just got round to setting it up on the day before the returns window closed. 

The phone was boiling hot even on 1st boot & transferring all data, & remained so even when updated & with no apps open. Just the screen being unlocked was keeping it warm to hot.

I used ebay return service, & the return got instantly closed!

Shouldn't ebay buyer protection cover this kind of issue when an item is defective?

You get 30 days from receipt of the item to use the ebay 30 day MBG. Are you sure you hadn't gone over this deadline? That would explain why you couldn't escalate your case and why it closed in the seller's favour.

Try your debit/credit card for help.

It was 30 days since the item was received.

I paid using my PayPal account balance. Will they be able to help just as a bank would?

It is timed to the second,a business seller could not decline if it was within the timeframe.

Try your payment provider if you paid via debit or credit card.

Try making a claim with PayPal.

Unfortunately Paypal has the same 30 day limit after delivery for not as described. I suspect that it would get bounced as out of time also.

Thanks for correcting me.  I remember years ago cries of "This is the end of e-Bay" &c from Sellers on here as they'd raised it to six months.  They've either reduced it again or, quite likely, the scare-stories of the past were b/s.

As the OP paid with an existing balance I can't see how they could go to a credit/debit card provider and it looks like legal action is their only remaining option.

Paypal allowed 180 days to return an item for years and years.

About a year ago, they changed it to 30 days,
