Possible chargeback for ebay purchase

Hi,

I bought multiple items from one seller and when the package arrived I just looked briefly inside and it seems all the stuff was there and nicely packed. When I actually got to unpacking, it turned out one item was missing. I contacted the seller twice but no response. The timeframe to open a case on ebay expired.

So I went to paypal, it was a hassle to open a case as it seemed there was no way to select just a single item out of the order, also, the seller has been identified as ebay, not the actual person who sold the item! I get it that ebay handles the payment, but that now makes them the de facto seller of goods sold on the platform?

Either way, since tracking was available and it showed delivery, paypal said I need to file a police report. I read online that this is just a hoop to jump through and paypal is going to decline the case anyway, so I figured a chargeback from the bank would be in order.

Since it is not against the seller, but ebay, will ebay automatically block my account if the chargeback is successful?

You need to cite the seller not ebay. Ebay does not sell anything, it is just a platform for sellers to sell their goods.

Also, Paypal, like ebay, only give you 30 days in which to raise a dispute.

Firstly, all payment disputes (PayPal or Chargeback) are automatically against eBay, although eBay will in turn involve the seller.

If the items were all part of the same order then you need to use 'Not as described' or possibly 'Refund not received' as the reason for the PayPal dispute or Chargeback since you did actually receive something which is proved by the tracking.

Ebay won't block your account on the basis of just one chargeback.  It would take several chargebacks before that happens.
