No point reporting fakes

I have owned a pair of moderately expensive designer sunglasses for many years but have always fancied the same design but in a different colour and have a saved search setup on eBay.

Usually the ones that appear are several hundred pounds but last week one came up around £100 cheaper than usual, still quite expensive. But anyhow this was a rare opportunity so I bought them before anyone else did.

However post purchase I noticed many sellers selling what looked the same for tens of pounds, this set alarm bells ringing. I researched the subject and found fakes were commonplace and found a website with a comprehensive checklist.

I also checked the sellers other items and although they didn't have much activity it was all designer gear.

Sure enough the glasses arrived and as soon as I opened the package I knew they were fake.

I immediately raised a not as described return and reported the matter to Ebay along with a definitive set of photos showing the differences between the fake and my real ones as well as a link to the site showing how to spot a fake, I told them the seller is selling questionable designer gear and they should investigate.

Less than 10 minutes later I got an email saying AI had concluded there was no evidence and that was the end of the matter.

So basically Ebay couldn't care less that fake goods are on sale even though I made it easy for them, and other buyers will now become victims.

It kind of makes you very cautious of buying on eBay knowing they are doing nothing to protect buyers.

Well, ebay do make a lot of money from sellers of fakes!

The only way to properly try to stop fake items, is to inform the designer/official holder of the name etc. and ask them to use the VERO system.

Ebay will listen to the real 'brand owner' because they know they have the option of suing ebay.

The 'fakes' question on ebay has always been vexing, and now it's also puzzling; because last year ebay stated they'd like to become known as a site to buy 'high-end' and 'designer' goods!

Who the 'ell is going to spend loadsa money on big name stuff on a site that's riddled with fakery?
