Buying from Europe

Hi I’ve found a pair of sunglasses in Italy but I’m wondering how much they will cost to import to the UK? The ad lists a very high postage fee , does that include duty ?

If they're below £135 then eBay will collect the import fee up front.

How much are they?

Happy to take a look if you'd like to supply the listing link/number.

Yeah, they’re expensive.. 1000 euro net for the seller and approx £830 by
my calculations to me (don’t ask .. but basically a total sold out
collector’s item) : a uk based seller has a similar item listed for just
over 1300 and I’m thinking, if I really want to get one, I should go for
that?

Buying from Europe

Personally I would advise anybody - whether UK registered buyers or buyers living outside of the UK and with an eBay account in the same country that they live in - to always purchase items from sellers who live in the same country as themselves if at all possible.  This is generally the best option, as the buyer then does not have to pay any import tax and/or Customs duty when an item is being posted to them by a seller who lives in the same country that they do.  However, there are times when certain items can only be found for sale from international buyers, so in such circumstances buyers should ask themselves whether they really want the item badly enough to be willing to pay the full asking price and the cost of international postage, as well as any additional import taxes and/or Customs duties that may be payable on the item when it arrives in the country.

With regards to whether you should just go for the £1,300.00 item being advertised by a UK seller, the final decision lies with you, but it's a hell of a lot of money to pay for something, especially if the item in question subsequently ended up becoming lost or damaged in transit, or if the item that you received did not match the description of the item that you thought you were going to end up with...

At that price you will be charged import VAT, duty, and an admin fee on import, on top of what the seller charges you.
