seller offered 35% refund and keep product

I ordered an olive green linen shirt and I got a flimsy lime green viscose shirt. I contacted seller for a return and refund and he came back with the offer of 35% refund and I can keep the shirt.  I reiterated I wanted a refund and return the shirt and then he responded saying that he will refund the full price and asked for positive feedback.  He's already actioned it 4 days after I first raised it with him and used 'seller cancelled order'.  Is this a thing now as it's the second time it's happened (with another seller).

Is this the way people do business on Ebay or should I open a case against him for dodgy business practice?

If you have already opened a return case, and returned at YOUR expense, you have already been conned as a Proper Not As Described case woldmhave made th seller pay the return postage.

Sellers can only get away with murder if buyers do not read the Money Back Guaratee that ebay does put on every listing and just do returns outside the system.

By cancelling the sale the seller has got his fee refunded and you will not now be able to open a proper case as the sale no longer exists.

Ebay provide all the tools to deal with poor sellers, but so few buyers ever bother to read and do things properly.

There is no such thing as a case for "Dodgy Business Practice",all you can do is leave appropriate feedback.

You can open a "not as described" return to get your money back.   Go to "More Actions", far right of item on your My eBay Purchase History page, click on Return this item > Doesn't match description, and escalate it to eBay after 8/9 days.

There was no need to get into discussion with the seller. All you have to do when things go wrong is to read Ebay's 30-day Money Back Guarantee, and follow the instructions to return the item to the seller at his expense in order to get a full refund. The MBG is on every listing, and in various other places across the site. You also have the More Actions dropdown beside each transaction on your Purchase History page, the Resolution Centre (link at foot of any page), and the Help pages to refer to (links at top and foot of any page).

If you've received a message from Ebay telling you that the seller has cancelled the order, that will have triggered a full refund back to your payment source.

The selling fee he paid to Ebay won't be refunded unless he lied about the reason for the order cancellation (said you requested it). If so, he should be reported - use Live Chat or Request-a-Callback in Help & Contact - so that Ebay can reverse the selling fee credit and deal with the seller appropriately.

Finally, the feedback system is how you report a seller for 'dodgy business practices', and to warn prospective buyers.  So do it now. That's what the feedback system is for.
