i wouldn't hesitate by going through your bank to do a chargeback, you will need to provide all your evidence and communication you have, get on to your bank as soon as possible, £2000 is a lot of money, it might even make the seller refund your money.
chargeback can and do work.
went through one myself last year.
paypal can do nothing to stop you doing a chargeback, you paid through your credit card provider.
