Hi, I live in spain and do most of my purchasing from ebay uk. Due to brexit I am required to pay import duty. I asked one particular seller how much duty would be.He had no idea and said everything will be listed at checkout.
I dont want to "Buy" and only then dicover the amount of duty is too high and not worth paying. Should I then not proceed to buy I shall infringe ebay regs.
For obvious reasons I am trying to purchase from EU countries.
Has anyone found a system that will quote import duty prior to purchase committment.thanks.
I don't understand why you would ask on the UK boards for advice on import duties in Spain? You will be able to find information on this online.
I'm guessing that you continue to use an ebay.co.uk registration to view the site in English? If so, there's nothing to prevent you from opening a second ID in Spain. This will at least enable you to get an estimate for delivery and import duty to Spain when sellers use eBay's global shipping programme.
Other than the GSP, there's no way through eBay to get a quotation for import duty payable in Spain - or anywhere else.
adding to advice already given -
You say you live in Spain BUT your account says -
The seller can have no idea what every world government charges their citizens for sales and import tax. Import thresholds and taxes all vary dramatically. It is up to you as the importer to look up this information for yourself, on the Spanish government's website.
It's the vat rate in Spain plus whatever duty your government imposes. I should think the Spanish government would have published something on importing from the UK post Brexit.
Import Vat is Charged by HMRC. Is nothing to do with Ebay or the Seller other than Ebay has to Collect it and send to HMRC.
