faulty item, seller closed case on me

Hi.

Purchased a 3d printer motherboard new. Went faulty after a couple of months, requested a return through eBay. seller closed case on me straight away. He got in touch and eventually offered a replacement but have been trying to sort this out with him from over a month. Says he has sent it and for me to chase it with post but is unable to supply details. He is a Chinese seller but item was sent from UK.

Since he closed the case on me I don't seem to be able to get a way through eBay to help.

Any ideas

Any Warranty offered is only as good as your ability to enforce it. If a Business Seller consult Citizens Advice or Trading Standards. You need to read the Ebay Money Back Guarantee which is on every listing, it only covers condition on arrival and has to be used within 30 days AND IS NOT A Warranty.

If you opened a case after a couple of months ,  it would close automatcially,  as you only have 30 day's after the item's last estimated date for delivery to open that  case with eBay.

 

Neither eBay nor Paypal offer product warranties,  that items will be fit for purpose months down the line,  only that they are as described on receipt,  if not,  there are 30 days to claim for a full refund.

I don't understand why you think this is something Ebay can help you with.  Ebay is simply a platform on which sellers offer their wares, ie. an electronic version of your local mall. You wouldn't expect the local mall owner to help you when a store in their mall fails to honour a warranty, so I'm not sure why you expect it of Ebay.

 

Ebay's 30-day Money Back Guarantee (which is on every listing and in various other places across the site), along with PayPal's Buyer Protection, can legally only cover items which are damaged, faulty or not as described on receipt Ebay and PayPal (or any payment processor) cannot possibly assist with items which you report as problematic further down the line, as they can have no idea who is at fault - you for misusing the item, or the seller for supplying substandard goods.  Only a judge can make such a decision.

 

But Ebay's MBG and PayPal's Buyer Protection are generous extras to your consumer rights - they don't replace them.  If the seller is a UK business seller, or an international seller with UK warehousing, go to the CAB's website to learn what to do ('before action' letter by Signed For post, followed by Small Claims court if necessary) just as you would when dealing with an unhelpful retailer in your local mall.
