Tracking number scam - tracking number for another person used in my purchase

Hi I recently bought an item that was supposed to arrive 11/1 - today I checked ebay only to find the purchase had been deleivered on 11/1

I tracked the parcel and it was delivered to an address in a totally different city to me and when I called the courier they advised me that it was addressed to a different person in a different city leading me to think that I have been scammed and that the seller used some other tracking,

I have raised a dispute but wanted to ask if this is a common thing - the seller pretends to be UK based but is actuially chinese and I bet the goods are fake too

Have you read the sellers feedback? I would think that it is more likely that the seller mixed up the tracking numbers. No seller could get away with for very long using this as a deliberate fraud.

Unfortunately if you have opened a Not Received Case you are going to lose if tracking shows as delivered. Ebay looks no further than what tracking says, only Paypal will look more closely at WHERE the tracking shows as delivered.

If the tracking number confirms it was delivered to a different address, you should win the case.

If you don't, and eBay simply didn't bother to check the details properly, contact eBay about an appeal.

If even this fails, you can open a second case under PayPal's 180 day buyer protection policy. Unlike eBay, PayPal is regulated, with a proper complaints procedure and a right of appeal to the financial ombudsman. This means that they have to be much more careful than eBay to check things properly.
