The seller has asked for my email address and telephone number to arrange courier, is this safe?

Seller has asked for email address and telephone number as there is a problem with weight and dimensions to send it with Hermes

and wants to arrange delivery with another courier!

Is it safe to give personal details in such circumstances?

Thank you!

Seller already has your name and address.

In years gone by your name, address, and telephone number appeared in a huge telephone directory.

The chances are you have included your telephone number and email address to at least one online shopping website.

Go ahead and do it, that info could make delivering your purchase a lot easier.

Couriers do not need any of your contact details. All they need is your physical address.

The seller cannot supply these details to a courier without your express written permission, as it would break strict data protection laws. Just tell the seller to enter a string of zeros or make something up. If that isn't accepted, he should enter his own email addy and phone number.

Incompetent seller, should have checked weight/ dimensions before listing....

It is up to you, but they already have your email if they cared to look at the leave feedback Page.

It is very unwise for a buyer to arrange their own courier, the Money Back Guarantee does not apply and if lost or damage, then it is between the buyer and Courier, not your responsibility.

That is at least is what the rules say, but ebay has the habit of making up rules as they go along.

Not covered

  • Buyer's remorse or any reason other than not receiving an item or receiving an item that isn’t as described in the listing (see the seller's return policy for returns options)
  • Duplicate claims through other resolution methods
  • Items sent to another address after original delivery
  • Vehicles, Real Estate, Business & Websites for Sale, Digital Content, Intangible Goods, Classified Ads, Services, and some Business Equipment categories
  • Items damaged during collection
  • Collection items damaged during shipment when shipment arranged by the buyer
  • Items collected by a third party on behalf of the buyer
  • Items not collected by the buyer

It's up to you,it's only so the courier can keep you posted on status but it does go against the data protection act methinks.

Personally i think it's about time ebay introduced a system like fr ad s used to have, the numbers shown on a sellers ad was not the sellers actual number but when you rang a seller it diverted to the sellers real number, ebay could do that with a non linked email addy as well which could be used in the same way, both could be changed frequently so there would be no point in popen_mouthnd life collecting them to sell on for marketing purposes ,they could be encrypted.
