Seller cancelled an item that I won. What now?

Hi,

Today I had a rather bizarre experience on ebay.

So I won an item on ebay. Seller mentioned that it was for collection only.

I offered the seller for it to be collected by a delivery company and asked the seller if I should pay via ebay or upon collection.

Seller suddenly decided to cancel the purchase, as seller said I was stressing her/him, because i should be the one collecting it not a dlivery company.

I am honestly left puzzled. Seller cancelled the item, I am not even able to leave any feedback. Seems a bit one-sided and unfair...

Any suggestions from people here who've had similar experiences?

Also, do I get charged by ebay or get blocked?

Thanks.

Collection means personal collection only. It does not mean that you can send your own courier...! If the seller was happy to package an item for courier collection, and to wait in all day for a courier to arrive, they would have offered and charged for courier delivery on the listing. That would have got them a lot more interest in the item, and therefore more money.

Personal collection means that you are expected to fully examine the item in person. Only when you're 100% happy that it's what you expected do you hand over cash.

So the seller was completely within his rights to cancel the transaction. Any feedback that you leave will be fully removed by Ebay on request.

In future, ask a seller if they will allow courier collection before you bid or buy, not afterwards. Most sellers aboslutely will not, for the above reasons. But if they do, be aware that arranging your own courier means you forfeit Ebay's buyer protection (which is limited on collection items anyway, and non-existent with Paypal or any other payment processor).

Of course you can leave feedback, look in MORE ACTIONS. While I can only guess at the reason, if picked up by a Courier or anyone other than YOU the buyer, there is no buyer protection even if paid by paypal and any problems, for example damage in transit or not as described are between you and whoever picked up the item, not the seller . That is fine if you accept the risk but as with all things ebay there have been cases where refunds have been made when cases have been opened and against all the rules Ebay has found in favour of the buyer. Selling can be a risky business for sellers as there is virtually no seller protection.

Sellers do prefer the actual person  buying,  to come and inspect the item,  they may have had previous bad experience when a third party has been involved,  because the time to fully inspect is on collection they may have had someone later complain the item was not as described,  you will never know their reason for cancelling.

Suffice to say it's bad selling they cannot be forced to sell,  but eBay do not like unhappy buyers,  so the seller will pay a seller fee and get a defect on their account.

It does not take too many defects to close a Private seller's account down permanently.
