Is there any way I can permanently set my purchase preference is to UK only.

Hi all, Is there any way I can set my purchase preference "Permanently' to UK only?

I'm tired of getting caught out.

If we need to be in lockdown due to the virus, I can't wait for over a month for something to come from far away. I want it to be uk only.

I did a search on this topic and there seems to be numerous queries regarding this and no proper resolution.

I really don't want to cause a bother and problems to the people at the other end. But so far this week I've cancelled two orders. I try to always tick UK only. But then I get distracted by other bits and pieces that are similar. And before I know it I've bought something that will take 30+ days to arrive.

Due to the virus lock down, at the moment I don't even want to see products that are not in the UK.

So due to the difficulty we find ourselves in, is there not some way that eBay can facilitate a fix to be permanent (unless otherwise decided by the purchaser)

Just wondered how as a Buyer you managed to "Cancel 2 Orders" ?  Buyers can't Cancel anything, only Sellers can, Business Sellers, you just need to ask.

Re cancelling an order, I just ask the seller.
I know that sellers have a 48 cooling off period. But do you know whether there are any cooling off periods for e bay purchasers. I know that there are uK statutory rights under the consumer act ie 48 hours cooling off, but unsure how these statutory rights are applied for Ebay purchasers. Do you know?

As far as I am aware. No there are No Cooling Off Periods on EBay for Buyers or Sellers. Buyers Bid and Pay. Sellers Post.

you cannot make UK only your default as overseas sellers pay to have their items shown on the site

to avoid being caught out you need to get into the habit of going to a sellers feedback page (click on the number in brackets next to their ID)

once on that page you can see where the seller is based and how good their feedback is

I am not looking for a workaround. I have been trying to remember to do all of this and Both this solution and always setting to UK only just makes the process as torturous as possible.

I am really asking Ebay themselves to provide a more user friendly platform, where it is possible to facilitate and allow a purchaser to decide whether they want to set their parameters to UK only during the Virus Lockdown.

as I said overseas sellers pay to have their items shown on ebay.uk and ebay would be in breach of contract if they allowed the default to be set as UK only

setting the default to UK only won't stop you seeing items from overseas sellers,


the search is for ITEM location, not the seller location, so overseas sellers who have a UK distribution point can put the location as the UK,


so, to see where the seller is located you have to look at their feedback


looking at the feedback page isn't a 'work around' you should look at it every time you want to buy something, that is the whole point of the feedback system,


you look at the feedback BEFORE you make a purchase, to check whether the seller is trustworthy etc.

I don’t want to restrict sellers, I’m interested where the item is located because being shut at home he’s pretty boring i.e. I would like the item delivered as quickly as possible and not to wait a long time for delivery. So hence i’m looking for the item to be UK only. Ie I’m not looking for your suggested workaround or to keep changing my preference.

It’s disappointing to think that such a large company cannot make this search preference much more user friendly. I don’t find any of the responses here to be an effective answer. And I know questions like this have been asked many times before. Very disappointing. However many thanks for trying.
