Buying an item the bidding has ended on?

So, my computer decided to update itself in the last few minutes of a listing, and by the time I managed to log in to eBay the listing had ended, without any bids, and it hasn't been relisted. Can I still contact the seller through eBay to ask if they are still interested in selling the item or is this against eBay rules?

No harm in asking seller if they plan to relist. If seller knows what they are doing they could relist with best offer, you make your offer, they accept - Sold.

What ebay would object to is if you tried to provide an email address or telephone number as they would assume that you were trying to do an off ebay deal.

Yes, I have contacted a seller under similar circumstances who although they were very helpful didn't tell me when they relisted the item, so perhaps they don't always know what they are doing! Nobody likes timewasters but In this case the item is free collection in person so I will have to satisfy myself the item meets my requirements before taking things any further!
