12 months warranty  on item

Hi

I bought an item on eBay for £355 end of October last year.

It was a chicken coop.   It was advertised and good quality, durable etc.

Inspected the coop today and it is falling apart.

I have messages the seller but received no response so far.

Where do I stand on 12 months standard warranty?

The seller is based in the UK.

Thank you  for your response

EBay and PayPal's buyer protection schemes only cover the condition of items on delivery. They are not a warranty, and don't cover faults that develop in use.

Any liability now rests with the seller. If they are a UK business seller you should in theory have the same statutory consumer rights as if you bought it from a shop.

Unfortunately, buying from unknown sellers on eBay isn't like buying from the shops. Many don't want to know about after-sales service. Even manufacturers' warranties are liable to be invalid for items bought here. EBay is a jungle.

You can take advice from trading standards or citizens advice or, in the last resort, consider using the small claims court or the Courts and Tribunals internet based money claim service, see: https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome.

It the seller is a private seller or abroad, there's nothing you can do.

Good luck, but this is one of the risks of buying on eBay.

Sorry, nothing you can do via ebay or Paypal.   They don't get involved with warranties and their own deadlines for claims are long gone.   If you used your credit card, with or without Paypal, ring your card company and see if they can help.
