Sales............stop start, stop start................Down again May 2024

Has anyone noticed a sudden downfall in sales from May 2024 onwards.

Sales dropped from being reasonable to flat ZERO however in the past few months noticed sales go up down start stop and then dies.

Please can you share your experiences.

Compared to our other selling platforms sales on ebay are literally plumetting. We will be lucky to do 50% of what we used to sell on ebay this year and we've been selling on here for over 21 years. I think people have deserted ebay in favour of other sites and high streets. I speak to friends and family these days and they all say they don't buy on ebay anymore as they hate the site and search and its all tat from China.

I have looked at that site before and have just taken another look, in some ways it looks promising however the fees are high and rising as it becomes more corporate. Fees are similar to Ebay's when you factor in Ebay shop fees, promoted listing fees etc. Not sure I want to spend the time listing on another site that wants 25% of  any sales made.

Update on my message that I have found interesting.

As my eBay Shop was of no use to me as eBayers were only able to look at very old Adverts on Google which would not take them to my shop, I closed my shop 8 days before the end of July (I knew that I could rejoin within 30 with my origional settings).   

At the time I was on 2 weeks break & my site was on holiday.

August arrived I realized that I would miss some Basic Shop extras. I reopened my Basic shop, but I needed to change my eBay Shop Name as the eBay message said the Original Shop Name could not be used (I worked around this), all the rest of my settings were still in place.

To my surprise now Views, etc. have improved & my Up to Date Adverts are on Google within a couple of hours.  My take on this is my old eBay Shop had become stagnant.

like you i've been on Ebay for 20 years, and last 6 years as a business seller. Never seen it so bad. Hard to sell anything unless you promote it, and I seldom buy anything here anymore either.  

Spent the last year learning to drive so I can quit this and go and do something else.

Since January my sales halved from what they were.  Now we're in August and my sales are a fifth of what they were last year; absolutely dreadful.  I have asked fellow sellers in my field and they are all saying the same.

eBay sales are definately on the decline.

It started in june 2023 for me i think. In 6-7 months time my sales were %70 down. Promoting, coupons, marketing, pricing your item to be the cheapest do not change a thing. Whatever Ebay wants me to sell i do sell in a month. I am still %70 down but i pay %50 more to Ebay so it is what it is. Ebay has the power and they use it, you just need to deal with it. I still have stock to sell so I keep the shop open. Do not expect a miracle, promoting my listings done nothing for me other than earning less.

Yes, eBay only care now about you promoting your listings so they get the normal fees they take plus the advert fee now too.   When you call them up asking is there something wrong with your account, or is there something up with eBay or if they notice a downturn in visits to the website, the advisers they all play dumb and act like there is no problem.

The up and down sales have been the same with our ebay shops.  The high sales days are not as high and the lows are lower than ever. They seem to be messing around with the algorithm. We have 3 ebay shops and sales have actually been on the decline since around December 2020. They want you to pay for promoted listings to boost your exposure  but we have tried them and they don't really work at all  - it just bumps your selling fees up and eats into already thin margins.  Ebay used to be a good platform to sell on but it has gone downhill they are just intersted in charging you as much as possible to sell on there now.

 Beware and be careful, this could happen to any of you. Ebay has suspended and hid my main account and are demanding all kinds of documents, such as a foreign passport, photo ID, driver's license, electric, phone bills and even mortgage papers just to restore the account and they refuse to pay what they owe me until I provide all this private information to them, which they can later on sell to the highest bidder. Because I am in the EU to me EU p'rivacy laws apply and I will not provide ebay with any of that. I confirmed my login with my registered mobile phone and my email and that is enough for them to let me log into my 26 years old ebay account. As it seems ebay is going to keep my money and have my account closed indefinitely. What a "great" way to keep everyone's money, ebay!

You may be from the EU but if you have an account the trades outside the EU such as the UK then that countries and tax laws apply, not the EUs

Sales are terrible. This is the worst year ever.

The big problem is that Ebay advertises other peoples stock on your listing page.

So if someone has same item cheaper, it stops your sale!!!!  They flood other peoples stock, you pay to list your own stuff not everyone elses!!!

This has been going for a long time and its killing it!!!

It's easy to stop that by promoting your own store brand by selling from a store of your own while talking about ebay like a legend that it once was. Ebay rules in sheer numbers of getting rid of its former customers.

Mine are exactly the same. Very few interested buyers- send offers. Has affected my income significantly.

It would be nice for Ebay to make a comment. It's good items are free to list and TV advertising space show the Vinted advert free to list then straight after Ebay advert now free to list. Indicating a bit of a trade war.

Ebay is dead, we have double our stock and take less than last year! And its getting worst! Almost everyone is using promotions, so there is no competition. We have even tried a little trick, had maybe 30 watchers, so decided to send them 30% offer (impossible not to buy with this discount) - not even single person bought anything, clearly shows that we all have a selling cap. Dissaster!!! Amazon and Vinted seems to be doing well.

I was a buyer on ebay, but they suspended my other id, that's why I am posting from a zero feedback old id which I have not used for decades. The only reason for suspension was because I logged into my ebay account from a different browser on the same computer I have used for over a decade. Also, ebay owes me a few euros but has since never paid me those money. Ebay are thieves. I will never buy a single thing on ebay. If ebay abused many more buyers then the result is: ebay is dead, but of course.
