Not so long ago private sellers were told by Ebay they would no longer be paying any fees on sales. The reason given, after trials in Germany it was proven that private sellers were spending more on Ebay buying from business sellers therefore increasing sales on the platform. However what we were not told in a couple months down the line they would be taking away the option to offer multi buy discounts and on top of that adding 75p per item buyer protection fee|+ 4% of the total sale price to our buyers. This so called buyer protection which buyers have free by law anyway could increase a low cost item (£1 ) by as much as 79% far more than the fees we were originally paying. Neither the buyer or seller benefits from this policy only Ebay. The UK is currently the only Ebay platform in the world with buyer protection fees
I wonder why?

Buyers from private sellers have very little legal protection and no way to enforce what little they do have.
Ebay gives them more protection and an easy way to enforce it.
Why are you posting on the business seller board? Business sellers are not part of these recent changes,

Buyers already have *Ebays money back guarantee for items purchased from private sellers. The minute a buyer opens a case funds are frozen till the case is resolved which is usually a full refund.
*When you shop on eBay.co.uk and pay at eBay checkout, your purchase is covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee for 30 days from the estimated or actual delivery date.

The day of the free to sell for private sellers announcement, they also announced the the introduction of a buyers fee in Q1 2025. It got lost in all the excitement, there were plenty of threads on here and Reddit.

Yes that's correct - BPF alongside buyer enhancements for additional value ?
Where are they? Are those the 24/7 customer service chat? Which we already had or the secure transactions - already in place ... MBG already in place... so what are the added protections and enhancements for buyers exactly? I know much has been said and covered in numerous threads but we cannot ignore the ambiguity in what eBay are claiming.

@vintique*violet I don’t disagree with you, just pointing out that the BBF was announced at the same time on 1st October 2024.

I understand that, appreciate, and that you or any of us can not really speak for eBays decisions... but until eBay address what many are trying to clarify and are upset/confused about and it is affecting their sales ( trust pilot are full of disgruntled buyers and sellers) as we can see by comments... it only proves that eBays "valued customers " are not being listened to ( ignored would be a better word but I am being polite about it) ... it is at least mis-representation and negatively affecting people to one varying degree to another...On top of this imposing funds held and SD is beyond comprehension... unless their agenda is to be the new " amazon" or something else is on the horizon , who knows,? but one thing for certain is it will continue as more join for the enticement of " free to sell" only to find that the " penalties" are a far greater cost on many levels and I believe, that is also your personal data.
