Has any body else been switched off since giving ebay their national insurance number?

Hi there, just wondering if any body else's sales been switched off since giving ebay their national insurance number, I was asked for it on thursday, I obliged as it is the new government law and I've had no sales since, no other information relating to it has been sent to me, the previous year they had my tax return to prove who I was and that I was paying tax, so what now, have I been suspended until they check it, and I don't know about it or is it just a coincidence, because I'm stumped, thanks.

Glad I found this thread! Yip, gave  my NI on 2 of my shops and both have substantially dropped off. Can’t help though, that it’s right before payday for many. Entered it Monday morning, it’s now Wednesday night… 3 days with 2 sales on one shop & 0 sales on the other.  I average 4-7 sales a day across the two shops. Ran a flash 48hr 50% discount on 80% of the stock and didn’t make a single sale on it.

No, if anything it has gone the other way.

Sorry I don't have any direct experience but frustrated about this requirement.  I am very nervous about providing my NI no in case eBay gets hacked.  There are some very big names that have had data stolen, most recently M&S and Co-op and so it is not an ungrounded fear.

But there appears no way around this as HMRC seem to want the NI no rather than UTR (which would be safer to provide I believe).  However HMRC do not require this data until December 2025 and so I was waiting until the very moment to provide it but eBay have just blocked me taking funds out of my account (despite the fact eBay don't have to hand this data over until the end of the year).

It is also clear from the complete hotch potch of what I am selling that I am clearing out my house and I do not have a trade.  It just feels very heavy handed when there is no actual tax at stake.

This is a VERY simple choice.

Firstly, it's not Ebay demanding this information, it is HMRC.

So, you either give them your number and can continue using the account, or you don't give them it, in which case the account is frozen and you are no longer able to sell on Ebay.

This is not restricted to Ebay.  If you sell on any other site, they will ask you for your NI number, as they are obligated by HMRC to pass this information to them.
