Estimated Delivery Time and Defects

This is becoming an issue that I find hard to deal with...

I have spoken to a few customer service reps over the last few weeks and the issue that I have is I sell a lot of items £10 and under (60%) and 40% 10 and over the cheaper items I send using 2nd class delivery and because Royal Mail have been inconsistent I have sent up my delivery policy as 3 days handling time and 2-3 days delivery time which gives me 5-6 days for the customer to receive it just so I cover myself from defects

But what I do is post every day just so I have a few day's buffers

And what I have noticed is the system will give an estimated time of 2-3 days or 3-4 days even though when I look at the listing from the customer end it shows as 5-6 days so when my item gets delivered on the 5 days I get a defect and because it's not tracked but only scanned as delivered I have to kind of fight with customer service to get the defect removed (call them up)

When speaking to customer service they have to say my estimated time is based on my average delivery time (2-4) days which defeats the object!

Is anyone else having issues like this?

Estimated Delivery Time and Defects

I just got another defect for "late delivery" during the May bank holiday.

Sold an item late on Wednesday 22nd (22:00), I packaged and booked the parcel on the system on Thursday 23rd, Courier collected on Friday 24th.
Saturday and Sunday are non working days.
Monday is the UK Public Bank Holday.
Tuesday 28th - Day 1

Wednesday 29th - Day 2
Thursday 30th - Day 3 --- Item was delivered on this day!

My listing states; Will usually dispatch within 2 working days of receiving cleared payment.
My postage time clearly states 3 days.

Am I in the wrong here or should my defect be removed?

My understanding has always been that eBay counts Saturday as a working day - which it is, for most carriers.  This means that Thursday is day four, and you are guilty as charged.

Of course, the buyer was probably completely unaware that the item was 'late' and was thrilled to receive it on Thursday, despite the bank holiday.

Estimated Delivery Time and Defects

Please see this other thread on this long standing issue om eBay over promising on unachievable delivery dates:

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Technical-Issues/EDD-s-shows-same-day-delivery-as-dispatch-day-for-2...

This issue has been going on for months/years now.

Come on eBay. Surely it is best of estimate realsitic dates and not give false hope to buyers.

At the time of writing, eBay are offering our buyers next day estimates on economy 3 day delivery options. It is impossible to achieve, unless we stomach the loss of upgrading every order to a free next day service... not worth it for some £5 items when the next day courier is £5.34!!!

All someone at eBay has to do is:

1. Look at todays day and time

2. Look at the sellers cut off time for same day shipping.

3. Look at the sellers handling time for orders.

4 For 3 day economy deliveries, add 3 days plus the sellers handling time to the day that is either the latest of 1 or 2

Easy!

No point just say next day delivery when the above totals 5 days!

Just leads to defects, loads of wasted emails telling customers to ignore eBay estimates, cancellations, all of which reflect badly on the consumer expericene and push buyers to Amazon etc
