how come there is at present so many Chinese sellers on here who are allowed to put their despatch location as here in the UK?
I've found loads of items which are undercutting most UK sellers and they all show their location as in the UK but then have their registered company address details as in Hong Kong.
its pretty clear that these sellers dont have offices in the uk and are just putting this to stop them being filtered out when someone clicks on show uk only.
surely there should be some check done by ebay to ensure that if a company claims to be in a country the address needs to be verified..

Almost EVERY Chinese seller I've looked at recently is using a fake business address. I would have thought this might be against the law, against some law at least. How does this affect tax etc.? These business addresses are easy to prove as fake, Google shows them easily enough.

This is not only happening to buyers it's also happening to sellers.
You get a buyer whose profile shows you they are based in China but when you get a sale the delivery address shown on PayPal is a UK address. Some times it is clearly a shipping agent address but other times it appears to be a residential address. Whatever it might be it's something which obviously isn't being stopped.
My buyer block list is made up by a few of these since they are the only people who claim items have arrived broken.

If people don't continue to change it shows eBay that it's not a problem and no one is bothered about it. Apathy makes things work very well.

It's a shame as they really need to,I recently made a purchase that said the seller was from Leeds. The item was faulty and I wanted to return it,prior to this I was in contact to the seller to return it.Lol,the address was false and he tried to cut a deal with me but ended up giving me a full refund

Agree, year is 2021 and still this is happening. More so, it says "genuine UK seller"... but then still get sent from China, so 3 days delivery becomes over a week, never comes on time, and genuinely POOR product. Ebay need to sort this out, really really damages their brand fully.

Unfortunately, no one cares there - they are like temp workers at mail sorting centre during Christmas time - and chasing short time gains over long term future.

Happening with increasing frequency now ... Quick check on listings takes a few clicks =
1. Item location is seen under Postages in listings ...
2. Based Seller Location is shown in their Feedback profile ...
3. Country of eBay site Registration is shown by clicking through their 'Items for sale /View listings' links and seen under Seller information in left column ... often very different and even if an item is showing as being sent from a UK location, if either member is based/registered anywhere outside the UK, it will trigger additional 20% VAT import fees ... You not find the word 'genuine' somewhat problematic?
Like 'honest' in a car dealer's business name. 🙂
Perhaps easiest to look for sellers whose feedback indicates quick delivery. If multiple instances of reports of slow delivery then try another seller.

But why we/buyers have to waste time?!?! Isn't it eBay's job to weed out dishonest sellers? Or at least police their own policies...

Not that easy to avoid these days
But I have been avoiding “genuine uk seller” indeed.
Some are getting clever to it.
3 day fast delivery etc then just take weeks.
You would think a firm like eBay would police it.
It’s p/$$ poor

They'll police sellers who don't meet listed requirements.
Some of the UK based sellers will buy from China or other overseas places after the sale has been done.
Not Chinese, merely supplying the goods from some distance away. Which again can take weeks.
One of the sellers I often buy from is international, half the time what I'm ordering is from his German warehouse rather than his UK warehouse. Adding a week or so to delivery.
Considering how good ebay are at some many other aspects of their business, would we really want them policing sellers more than they do now?
Multiple times on the forums have come across sellers suddenly suspended from trading without any warning or indeed sometimes reason.

I noticed a seller who is British, still on eBay says her stock is in uk and takes 7 days.
So I ordered, as she I thought would be quicker. 8 days later the package from her turns up in one of those white bubble pack envelopes with a Chinese label .
