I tried to make an offer on an auction item on both Firefox and Chrome but was unable to so I just entered a bid which went through okay.

I can politely disagree with that. I have answered daily constant questions on ' why can't I send offers/ see watchers/ log into my account/ add photos / videos? ' They're many daily. It may or not may be something to do with this big issue, but the big and small they're all there daily ! 🙄

Those buyers probably gave up and bought on Amazon
Not so much of an issue for them....

When my sales tank, I go and take a look at my nemesis. A selling machine, his prices are insanely low for top branded leather vintage but he has make an offer on everything anyway and accepts even lower (I have checked) - and he lists new stock every day - huge amounts. He abuses buyers (got removed for outright racism once) and since private sellers have free to sell he moved to private, occasionally gets jumped back onto business, but then just opens a new private account.
Has he suffered with the outage at ebay this weekend? Has he ----. He's selling like a maniac like he always is.
I guess that's my point. Yes the site is incredibly glitchy - I've just done some ending and sell-similaring (or would have done, if the darn things had jumped into inactive... still waiting on that) but I don't think the glitches are affecting sales in a meaningful way (even though I wish they were). My nemesis sells cheap and probably works for peanuts (or else his stock costs pennies) and for him it's business as usual.

I'm in the UK and having the same issue for several days now with UK sellers when I can't make an offer. I'm able to put in my offer amount, but when I go to continue, I just get eBay refusing to connect message.
Strangely, I can make offers to sellers in the States.
Very frustrating!

Nistr81 did you try Brave browser?
Lots more reporting this now
New thread on Buying forum...
Still nothing from eBay team
How many potential customers have we lost thanks to the glitch?

I haven't, as I'm a bit nervous of messing with my 8 year old Chromebook. I'm not very technical at all, so all this stuff is a bit over my head. Still got the same problem today, so I'm actually thinking it might be my old laptop, but really haven't a clue.
Thanks though for your suggestion 👍

The site has become really glitchy again. The seller hub isn't loading properly. Everything I'm doing seems to have a long hang time or require a refresh to load properly.

I am really curious as to what changes they are actually making at the moment....
Something is definitely going on, but I guess we will never actually know.

What's happening at the moment is possibly the fall out from the major outage at the end of April, which some are attributing to a DDoS attack. ebay hasn't admitted the outage was a DDoS, but there are reports about a hacking group claiming the attack.

That doesn't make a great deal of sense to be honest.
DDoS is denial of service. ie flooding servers with lots of traffic.
It doesn't actually change software etc.
So they could be upgrading security etc, but it shouldn't be the kind of thing that causes issues after the fact, which is why after these kind of attacks, everything is up and running pretty quickly.
Note, I'm not saying it's not, just that it doesn't seem likely. 🙂

It's working now

We are talking about ebay and their wobbly technology here.
A two day DDoS attack is what's being talked about in the States and a hacking group with ties to Iran has come forward to claim it.

I'm sorry, but they may be running legacy systems. I'm not even sure that they are to be frank.
But even so, this type of attack is not going to hurt the same.
The clue is in the title, Denial of service! 🙂
I worked with legacy systems for most of 20 years and know a little bit about this kind of thing.
It's unlikely that will cause a lot of issues after the attack is finished.
At worst, they will be updating/installing software to strengthen systems. Possibly even some hardware.
That may cause the odd issue, but not the attack itself.

It's the sellers setting for that item.
Can use it for Offers and buy it now.

Just checked mine - autopayment is unticked (and I have always left it unticked).
(I worry having it ticked will just result in more returns.)

eBay auto tick sometimes, drives me mad...
Also some sellers could just be fed up with non payments
