Hello everyone! Today I received a message from eBay, which says that HMRC asks eBay that I, as a seller, add a UK taxpayer code to my account. I found this strange because 1. the account is registered to a citizen of Ukraine. 2. all the goods that I sell are located and sent from Ukraine. 3. for all 6 years of using the account, the turnover on the account per year did not exceed £ 15,000. I have several questions, and I would be glad if you could help me and tell me what to do next. Can a person who has never been to the UK in his life, has citizenship of another country (not the EU) get a UK taxpayer card remotely without being present in Britain?
Best regards from Ukraine

So for I have no response from anyone responsible and I was not able to reach anyone who could hellp...
Looks like people will be suffering because of this eBay glitch.
Its crazy to think that I am selling herte for yeas, made ebay a lot of money and when there is their wrong doing and falsly askin UK VAT id there is no one who can help.
Here on the voards no one who can do anything responded, customer service is unable to help they have no idea what I am taking about and my "eBay manager" is just making empty promises...
At leas I reccomend you to check the "item location" of your listings and if there are any with UK change tham back to your country.
This is the main issue what triggered this UK VAT requarement, that there is some kind of glitch which is changing item location to UK. selling on any marketplace you need UK VAT id only if your goods are located in the UK, thats why eBay is askinf it now.
Its an automated process most likely with no way to appeal, so far...
CAN ANYONE HELP?

You are a VAT registered business albeit not in the UK - could this be confusing ebay AI ?
Value added tax number.
I provide invoices with VAT separately displayed.
I certify that all my selling activities will comply with all EU laws and regulations.

I dont think so its an AI problem with the VAT.
I am not the only one effected and while I am EU VAT registrated many others impacted are private sellers, so I dont think so its an VAT confusion.
I am quite certain its about the "item location" and the glitch making items to be located in the UK in the listing instead in sellers country

Try checking if any of your listings are listed with the item location set to "United Kingdom". I had received the same message a while ago and when I asked support about that, it turns that eBay had set the location of one of my listings to UK due to some glitch which triggered the message.

There is just something nagging at me with your eu VAT number being displayed as a UK VAT number - my thought is that the EU VAT no is not being recognised as a valid UK VAT number.
I know that the VAT number is verified to the account holder and will flag up if for example the name on the VAT registration is different to the ebay account holder name.
With this being a UK site I guess that it is a UK VAT search by ebay and if so the EU VAT no will flag up as unrecognised.
What happens if you remove the EU VAT number - can you even do this ? Can you try and speak to ebay UK and ask if this could be problem ?

Hi! tell me, did you somehow manage to solve this issue? because today exactly a month has passed since the date when I received a message from eBay asking me to provide a British taxpayer code, and today I received a letter stating that some restrictions will be applied to my account, such as - 1. I will no longer be able to list goods on English eBay , 2. buyers will not be able to buy anything from me. in which I emphasize that neither I nor the goods I sell are located in Great Britain, nor even in the EU, I and my goods are located in Ukraine. I ask the moderators/administrators to deal with this issue, as I consider it a gross mistake on eBay's part. kat@ebay and dave@ebay I am asking you to pay attention to this and resolve the issue please 🙏🙏🙏

I contacted my eBay mamager weeks ago and she ensured my that UK VAT requrement was removed from my acount because it was there because of a eBay glitch. SO I assume they know its a glitch, but you must find/ contact someone who can remove this UK VAT requrement from your acount as well.
Like, I know the frustration, beeing punished for something which is not your fault, I have been there.
This is completely eBay fault and they were supposed to solve it, not you.
Try this site and write them an email: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5190
Also try to contact cutomer service and explain the issue again
