Just thought I would drop in and say well done for all the replies over the last couple of weeks. Sorry I have not had much input of late - main reason is the local telephone exchange caught fire. All communication in the area was down days (no mobiles, land lines, internet, cash machines, chip and pin etc). It went a bit crazy for a while. Made me realise how much we rely on the phone network these days. Mobiles came back on but internet is still weeks away (I ended up going out and buying a 3G USB). I got a few items to post (hopefully) on the forum in the next few days. 3G is slooooowwwwwwww

That's quite severe, and highlights a major failing in our telephony system. I hope you are back up and running normally soon.

Thanks Nigel. The main problem in Australia is that one company runs the telephone system - so if it goes down, that's it. That combined with the large distances between major cities and towns has resulted in this situation. It's going to cost them millions in compensation. Hopefully they will learn from it.

It's bad enough when the computer goes down for a few days but, no phones as well must make things very awkward. Hope you return to the 21st century very soon.

15 years ago we all managed no problem without any of these gismo's.

If that happened over here there would be major panic-after initially blaming the telephone companies everyone would then start blaming the banks for not letting them use their cards!
