time for action

too many members are visiting the forum regularly, day in and day out, without making any contributions to the discussions in any way or fashion,.please note and be aware, that members who keep visiting for weeks on end who do not contribute, will firstly  be warned, and secondly removed from the group, if they do not comply, the time where regular posters are keeping the silent majority updated and occupied are over, starting this saturday, membership visits will be logged..and action taken, where necessary

Re: time for action

It's a common sense approach that weeds out the leeches. Quality of involvement is always more important than the quantity of members.

Re: time for action

Interesting,if im honest i dont mind people who just look and dont comment as they are no harm to the group.

What gets me annoyed are certain members who do post their four or five pictures they have received from the same person,i comment well done etc and within two days they are selling them on ebay.

Re: time for action

Fair comment Steve, but it is a veritable minefield of moral rights and wrongs.

It frustrates many people who sign the autographs that no sooner than they have signed, they see the items for sale.

If I buy something then I consider it fair game for sale at any time. If I receive an autograph by writing to someone, it stays in my collection. It would be deceitful to request something ttm wth the intention of selling it unless the signer's permission had been obtained.

However, you do get situations when people fall on hard times and have dire need of extra income. In those circumstances, it is logical to sell a collection or parts of a collection to make ends meet. I have been there myself.

Society has changed, and by default so have a lot of collectors. For many there are no moral boundaries anymore, and that is where the hobby gets dirty and is abused.

It is also why forums like this need management of the membership. The people taking the information without contributing are mostly doing so with the aim of selling something which hurts the chances of genuine collectors and fans. There will obviously be some exceptions to this, but I would be surprised if many spoke up to say so.

Re: time for action

15# i can understand in members being intrested in looking at replies, however there is no logical reason why they cant comment on these replies at least occassionally,if your intrested in a certain thing, communication is an excellent way of progressing in such a intrest

#15 have to agree with you ..i dont have the time to say well done to every post as i might just look at a few that catches my eye and congratulate them....i have not got a reply for a while now as i cant get the time to write, ive a lot on

Re: time for action

sid,no one is saying that members such as yourself has to comment on every post, just posting  on a thread that really intrests them would suffice, this is not a witch hunt, all members who act in a responsible way will not be targeted, its indivuals who constantly visit for weeks and months who come on,get info ,then disappear without making a comment who will be asked to change there ways, and contribute more to the group, there is no point in joining a group,if your not going to communicate with other members of the group, groups are set up to for communication, that is there purpose

Re: time for action

Nigel agree with yr comments of course if you fall on hard times collections go infact anything goes if it keeps the wolves from the door. However not convinced 95 percent of the posters who take the information get the pictures, balls etc then put them on ebay within a few days of receiving are in that position.

#17

Again can see where you are coming from, but will posting a couple of well dones stop the guys who want to use the group for their own gains without giving anything back im not so sure.

Now trying to think of an answer maybe start another group where you have to earn the right to become a member,so your actions on this forum decide wether you should be involved with the new group.Probabaly a rubbish idea but just a thought.

All the best

steve
