my pc has been infected by a virus,causing critical errors, i think scammers have infected it somehow,because shortly afterwards,i received a telephone  call from some guy in india,saying it had  been infected,and that he could remve it,if i follow his instructions,obviously i put the phone down,as i have  heard before of this,where they gain access to your pc by remote control,and then go all through your files and passwords.,ive done all the usual anti vius,malware and spyware scans,all come up clear,symptoms i have is ,freezing frames,slow motion on youtube vids,and very slow page uploading:-( my mate who knows more  about pcs than me,is on holiday in italy as present too,so chaps wont be on much until i get this sorted,,daz

The symantec website has some free antivirus scan and removal tools. I have used it in the past if I think my installed antivirus software missed something, and it is very good.

Go here and run virus detection -

or, more aggressive (need to be careful with this), their power eraser -

From experience, if you have got a bad virus, the best solution is a complete reformat/reinstall of the pc.

It's a real pain when this happens. I hope you get it sorted soon, Daz.

On a lighter note, my mum who hasn't got a computer had a phone call to say there was a problem with her windows so, she told them they had just been fitted and were double glazed. She knew about the scam and thought it would be a good way to wind up the scammers. 😄

good luck getting it sorted Daz, had loads of problems myself a couple of months ago and ended up having to start from scratch and re install everything.  Luckily I had everything backed up

Hope you get the computer fixed. Those scammers rang me once. When I told them I don't use Windows (i have a mac) the woman said "how do you see out of your house?" before laughing and hanging up. Cheeky b*********
