Hi everyone bit of desperation creeping in here but is there anyone who has ever broken a rib/torn the ligaments around the ribs if so how long was it before they heeled?
Reason im asking iv woken up yesterday in unbelievable pain which got that bad last night i couldnt even lay down to go to bed hence a night of no sleep, went to hospital today and spent 5 hours trying to find the problem, they even thought id got a blood clot on me lung at one point...anyway after scans, blood tests and xrays it turns out iv torn 2 muscles between me ribs as well as the ligaments connecting those muscles to the ribs....the pain is umbelieable.
the gutting part is that i play cricket at a good level and we are having a storming season which has seen us get to the semi final of the yorkshire council play off, we are also top of the league with 5 games left and we are only a small club who have 1 payed overseas professional, compared to other clubs who plough thousands in to there team...one team are actually paying 45 grand out in players this season which is rediculous. I am just wanting to see if there is any hope of me playing this again this season and making the final if we get there, we have 5 weeks left, the hospital have told me that i will be out for at least 6 but im hoping i can be back sooner, just wondering if anyone can give me hope and say that they have had similar and healed quicker?
sorry for the irrelevent post but as i said its desperation....im gutted at the mo that im not gonna be able to play

Hi mate. I did something similar a couple of months ago, mine was between the rib cage and lung, so due to the extreme chest pain I was getting I had all the cardio tests, etc also. The worst of the pain only lasted 48 hours, but you must restup carefully for 2 to 3 days without inflaming it any more (not easy I can tell you) so it can heal. After that I had to take it easy for a couple of weeks without lifting/twsiting too much, and it was all ok.

Ow, Ow OOW! That sounds very painful, Rob. No expert on these things but as Nigel says, plenty of rest. I hope you are fit enough to play again this season.

I've only damaged my ankle ligaments playing football (chipped a bone in my ankle at the same time) and didn't play again for nearly 3 months, but as Nigel says,if you don't do anything to strain yourself and take if easy you might be okay in 3-4 weeks. Fingers crossed for you recover quickly.

I hope you recover soon, and are not in too much pain.
