Tony Cascarino reply

I sent three cards to Tony Cascarino on the 16th of April I got all three cards back signed today . Thank you very much to the kind member who helped me out with the address for this one .

Tony Cascarino was one of the worst signings for Celtic . He signed for us on 18th July 1991 and he made his debut in a 4-3 win against Dundee United on the 10 August . We had to wait untill the 10th October before he scored his first goal in the Hoops that first goal came in a game against  Hearts and as part of an amazing sequence of events in a six minute spell, he came on as sub, scored and then got sent off . His time at Parkhead would be brief with the forward complaining Celtic played too much football for his liking! After 30 appearances and a pathetic total of four goals Cascarino left Celtic for Chelsea in February 1992 . The next game after the transfer, all the Celtic  fans in the Jungle sang "Let's all laugh at Chelsea!". We really were relieved to see him go .

Even though he was with the club for a very short space of time, Cascarino is still ridiculed in Scottish football circles. It was often said "he couldnae even hit a coo's arse wae a banjo!", BBC Scotland's "Off The Ball" decided to put this to the test. In front of a studio audience, two BBC staff members dressed up in a pantomine costume as a cow and another member of staff brought in his father's old banjo to help out. Cascarino was then asked to assist in the act by proving to the public that what they were saying about him was wrong. Taking the banjo in both hands, he relished the chance to prove his doubters wrong but he was a bit over eager, and Cascarino ended up walloping the poor 'cow' as hard as he could. The audience went quiet and all that could be heard were the poor squeals of pain from the poor stage hand ("Neil") who made up the 'cow's' arse. The banjo was broken into two (how was the guy going to explain that to his old man?) and poor wee Neil ended up in hospital.

Re: Tony Cascarino reply

Remember Tony's time at Celtic well.  What a disaster !!  You might remember him playing in a match at Airdrie.  One of the rare games he scored in.  He chased a ball down the byeline and in his haste to keep the ball in ran into a poor Policewoman.  She was badly injured, and unbelievably the poor WPC was unable to work again.

Tony was signed for Celtic by Liam Brady the new manager at the time.  Strangly enough Liam had also been Tony's agent !!!?? 😉

As unfortunate the time Tony spent with Celtic was, his departure brought the Hoops the Legend Tom Boyd.  Part of a swap deal that must go down as one of the greatest robberies in football ever, lol.

Well Done Brian nice result 🙂
