A few months back I sent Michael Frith and Kathryn Mullen (husband and wife) a large SSAE, letter and a photo printout of a project I did years ago at college on Jim Henson. For signing I included an original daybill Dark Crystal poster, 2 Muppet Show index cards and a postcard-sized copy of Fraggle Rock character design (from a DVD set).
When I got home from work last week I had a tube waiting for me. I was amazed by what was inside. Michael and Kathy had signed the items I had sent, but also added a signed print out of a Miss Piggy design, artwork from Fraggle Rock, another large Dark Crystal poster and a note (they had also payed the postage to OZ). I am really taken aback by their great generosity, as I know most wouldn’t usually do this.
Michael Frith is a former Art Director, Vice President and Executive Vice President of the Jim Henson Company (or Henson Associates as it was known in the 70’s & 80’s). A great illustrator, Michael designed many characters on the Muppet Show (including Animal) and was the main designer on Fraggle Rock.
Kathryn Mullen is an actress and puppeteer who worked on the later series of The Muppet Show. She was the performer of the main character Kira in The Dark Crystal. She went on working for Henson, performing many characters on Fraggle Rock (including Mokey).
Both Michael and Kathy work with the fantastic charity No Strings.
