Star Wars Project

Hello

Not been on the boards for a while - autographs are still a big part of my life, but I've had a small shift in my focus

So in April I was lucky enough to take my family to Florida - a two week Disney holiday - however I accidentally found out that Star Wars Celebration was held in Orlando the same week I was there .... after some negotiation I convinced the family to let me take a day out of the parks to visit my first ever convention

Ahead of leaving I spent weeks preparing SW custom cards to get signed .... but then encountered a problem with printing - so much so that on the night before I flew I had nothing prepared. This was when a photo from my friend came back to mind - a signed Stormtrooper helmet

I quickly ordered one online, click and collect in Florida and the project was in motion

I attended Friday at Celebration - the pre-ordering system had been a disaster for me and several of my targets had sold out before I got my act together .... I ended Celebration with Billy Dee Williams, Jeremy Bulloch, Garrick Hagon and Denis Lawson

So this then set me off thinking about who else I wanted - and despite the chaos that is Celebration, I wanted to attend more conventions ....

My next convention was London Film & Comic Con in July - wow 🙂

I added another six to the helmet here - Rusty Goffe, Dickey Beer, Dave Prowse, Anthony Forrest, Peter Mayhew and Julian Glover

London was amazing - if I'd had more money and more time I would have added more and probably started a Game of Thrones poster too ... but I was thrilled with 6 more on the helmet

My last show was Hull Comic Con - a small show near my home, but it did have some Star Wars guests and I added 3 more to the helmet - David Stone, Laurie Goode and Chris Bunn

So this is where I am at - 13 Original Trilogy actors so far. I'm at Doncaster MonsterCon on Saturday to add Toby Philpott and Barrie Holland and then hopefully SW40 in Coventry in December where I'm hoping to add another 11

It has taken on a life of its own since I started - which I love. I have a list of 50 names that is essentially my wish list ... obviously Hamill, Ford and Lucas are at the very, very pinnacle of that list and are highly unlikely, but I'm very happy with where it is currently and the plans that I have for 2017

Who knows what 2018 will bring

Love to hear your thoughts and suggestions

Wow!

Considering everything was all last minute and things didn't go to plan in Florida, I think you've done brilliantly with that project. It's a great item and to get so many sigs on it so quickly is a great achievement. Good luck adding to it and you never know, one day you might get a chance to add Hamill, Ford and Lucas.

great project Mal, looks realy good, looking forward to seeing it fill up

Have you had any thoughts on how to display it once you are happy with it?

I'm very jealous by the way, I've always wanted to do a US Celebration.  Sounds like you have got the con bug now, lol

Thanks for the comments guys - pleased to share my project

In terms of displaying... I have no plans to do so, my wife tolerates my hobby rather than embraces so it certainly won't be on display anytime soon. My thoughts were around getting Ikea display cabinets and then buying more helmets to fill the shelves

Celebration was supposed to be one of the best experiences of my life ... but actually wasn't. In hindsight I should have been better prepared, but i just didn't have any convention experience. I wasn't prepared for the queues - I only had a 6 hour window and spent 5 1/2 hours in queues. I do want to go again but I will approach it differently

Thanks again for the encouragement - sharing the project gives me an energy boost and reminds me that I am doing something quite cool .... particularly when I'm stood in those queues wondering what the hell I'm doing

Anyway, Doncaster MonsterCon this weekend - added Toby Philpott ( Jabba Puppeteer ) and Barrie Holland ( Lieutenant Renz ) both original trilogy actors and significant additions to the project

It has just dawned on me that this is the TTM forum ... if you guys aren't happy for me to carry on showing show autographs I'll stop posting on this thread - I just hoped people enjoyed seeing something different

Great additions, Mal and of course we want to see your sigs.

This is a TTM forum but we also share our results from personal appearances and signed items we find in charity shops and boot fairs.

This is a fantastic project and I love seeing it fill up.
