Re: Saturday In Persons

looks like a great day out Nigel.  Glad you had a good experience with Anthony as he can be hit or miss depending on his mood.

Have to admit to not having heard of any of the other signers you met (except Elvira) but some nice looking girls and nice to get your Elvira comic signed after storing it for years

Re: Saturday In Persons

Greg - Anthony was in brilliant form. I eyed his signing area a few times, and he was happily chatting and posing with people. I saw him posing in the middle of the crowd with a couple of people dressed as Star Wars characters also, so it really did look as if he was having fun.

I had a choice between the glut of celebs at Milton Keynes next week and this. Although most of the names I mentioned would mean nothing to most on here or other autograph forums, I am glad my instinct was correct to go with the comics theme. It really was the best time out for me, bringing back lots of old memories, and introducing me to many new worlds and creative people. It is wonderful to watch talented people like the artists drawing/painting in front of you. It was also wonderful to see how packed out the place was with people having fun and enjoying themselves. That's the true essence of life. A hearty respect to everyone who attended.

Re: Saturday In Persons

Sounds like you had a great day Nigel,I've not been to one of these events for about 15 years when I used to go to the comics and collectables fairs at the NEC.(plus I always spent too much money on comics-still mainly collect the DC comics-Batman Superman Green Lantern and Wonder Woman.Batman is my main collection with most of the ones I need now pre 1965 and quite expensive now!

With my sonswho are nearly 15 and my daughter 7 liking Torchwood and Doctor Who the recent event in Peterbrough would have been good albeit very expensive and too far away.Instead we're waiting for the Doctor Who exhibition to reopen in Cardiff in July.

Re: Saturday In Persons

Rob - it was my first comic con for may years. I found it very strange that super hero comics and artists were represented in such a small way. Just goes to show how the industry changes. I do miss my old collection. Amongst the many series and runs I had were a complete run of the Avengers from #1 in the 60s to modern day, and a run of Strange Tales from the 1950s that was only missing 3 issues. These and Ghost Rider were my big favourites. Over at DC I loved the Flash. Those old 50s Strange Tales horror comics were wild and had the most amazing covers.

I do still have a few comic related bits, but not much, and mostly signed stuff. An indie 4 issue series called Technopolis. I communicated with the artist for a while and am named dropped on a letter page. He signed issue 1 for me. A multi-signed promotional limited edition ashcan of Ark/Tales Of Midnight by Blue SIlver Comics. A Tyler Mane siged Sabretooth comic. An Ian McKellen signed X-Men comic. A signed limited edition of Stan Lee's biography. Bernie Wrightson fan club stuff including a signed print. A Mark Millar signed Marvel graphic novel. A signed page or original art from one of DC's Babylon 5 comics. There's a few other non signed bits but not much.

Re: Saturday In Persons

Great day for you Nigel. Thanks for sharing it with us. I have never been to one of those shows before, although there have been times when I have wished I was in the UK so I could meet some of the people who attend. Stan lee is coming to OZ in a few months - might have to check it out.

Re: Saturday In Persons

I do have the limited signed edition of Stan Lee's biography, but have never had the opportunity to meet him. What a chance for you! I really hope you get it as his age is going to limit his appearances now. He will be 90 in December.
