Accy Staney were still 2-0 up the 88th minute against the League leaders Chesterfield earlier this afternoon...a goal in the 88th minute and an equalizer in the 90+4th minute cost up dearly...we need to play to the final whistle..switched off with 15 mins to go and cost us 2 valuable points.

Don't get me wrong Sy. I would love them to pull a surprise out of the hat, but with City at home it will be tough. Mind you, our intercontinental under achievers may thrive on a bigger stage where players do not kick lumps out of them.

4 or under and Watford have done well, Even with a game tonight down at West ham they will have lenty in reserve for Saturday.

Just a canter for them tonight 2-0 up at half time...nothing to play for really but I bet they still hit the magic 4 again.

Big news today was that Man City have purchased my ozzy team Melbourne Heart. We are bottom of the league at the moment, our first win was last weekend after 19 games! Things are looking up  - the club was being run with next to no money (Harry Kewell and the other players have to make up their own recovery ice baths in plastic wheelie bins) - so hopefully the oil money will bring better facilities and players. The word is that the name will be changed to Melbourne City (which I dont mind). Looks like City are pushing for world domination

Stanley's home game against local rivals Bury postponed at 2.20pm. Waterlogged pitch after an horrendous down pour around 1.45pm.  Hung on for a few minutes to get a few of the Bury team to sign the match day programme. Not the best of weather for IP Graphing at a footy match but have something to show tomorrow..

 Gutted!

4-2 is better than last year's 3-0 defeat to City in the FA Cup, so we are improving. lol. At least we lasted 60 minutes before doing a Moses red sea routine. Could have probably got good odds on that alone.

Wycombe wanderers 0 Stanley 0 .

James Beattie named an unchanged side from the Morecambe game which was abandoned last weekend.

The hosts started brightly with Dean Morgan spotting Marcus Bettinelli off his line and tried to chip the goalkeeper from 40 yards but his effort was well off-target and sailed into the stands.

They threatened again as Matt Bloomfield whipped in a dangerous cross that just evaded the sliding Paris Cowan-Hall at the far post.

Reece Styche was the first player to find himself in the referee’s notebook as he was cautioned for a foul on Stanley skipper Luke Joyce.

The Reds were defending doggedly with Joyce and Piero Mingoia throwing themselves in the way of Wycombe shots. Like previous away trips, Stanley were soaking up the pressure well.

Kayode Odejayi was booked on the half hour mark after leaving his foot in during a challenge with the home goalkeeper, Matt Ingram.

The hosts ought to have taken the lead then Bloomfield broke into the area but his control let him down and Dean Winnard was able to clear before the lively Styche had an opportunity to pounce on the loose ball.

The travelling Stanley fans were treated to the sight of Lee Molyneux back in a red shirt as he came on to replace Kal Naismith after 37 minutes.

After a turgid and goalless first half, the second period began with James Beattie making a slight tweak to his side with Molyneux and Mingoia swapping wings to allow the loanee to play on his stronger side.

Styche forced Bettinelli into a brilliant, full-stretch save as his shot on the turn from 25 yards looked destined for the top corner. The goalkeeper managed to get a fingertip on the ball to turn it behind.

Bowerman might have taken on a shot when he found himself in space near the angle of the penalty area but the forward instead decided to clip a cross in that was easy for the Wycombe goalkeeper to claim.

The Reds looked to hit the Chairboys on the counter-attack and almost executed it to perfection when Murphy slid Mingoia away down the right. His cutback found Molyneux but the shot did not match the build-up with the ball ending high in the stand.

Stanley thought they had the lead in the 83rd minute when Laurence Wilson’s shot-come-cross was put into the net via the post from Piero Mingoia but the referee’s assistant adjudged the winger to be offside to the dismay of the away contingent.

With two minutes of injury time added on, it was still Beattie’s men who looked the most likely to steal the win but Odejayi headed Wilson’s cross over the bar in the last action of the game as both sides had to settle for a point.

The first 45 mins had everything...........

Cannot find any info on the Chesterfield No 26 Dan Gardner who was stretchered off before half time...might have broken his leg

Lee Molyneux’s first half hat-trick earned 10-man Stanley a superb 3-1 victory over table-topping Chesterfield at the Store First Stadium.

The winger scored twice in the opening ten minutes to put the Reds in control but Peter Murphy’s red card after half an hour looked to change the complexion of the game.

However, Molyneux completed his treble in first-half stoppage time and James Beattie’s side never looked under great danger of surrendering their advantage, even when Ian Evatt pulled a goal back with five minutes left.

Beattie made five changes to the side which lost 2-1 at Burton last weekend. Loan signing Adam Buxton made his debut at right back with Nicky Hunt suspended whilst illness ruled out Michael Liddle, Kal Naismith and Shay McCartan so Laurence Wilson, Will Hatfield and James Gray came into the team.

The final change saw Danny Webber start ahead of Kayode Odejayi, who dropped to the bench. He was joined there by youth scholar Max Hazeldine, who was hoping to be involved at some point to make his Stanley debut.

In a whirlwind start to the game, Stanley threatened first with Gray’s wicked cross flashing across the face of goal before a mix-up between Marcus Bettinelli and Tom Aldred saw Gary Roberts free on goal but the former Red stumbled, allowing Dean Winnard to get back and flick the ball clear of danger.

Only three minutes were on the clock when James Beattie’s side took the lead. Molyneux’s free-kick from the right hand side was driven in low and it evaded everybody to creep into the bottom corner past Tommy Lee.

There was no let-up in intensity as Armand Gnanduillet side-footed a glorious chance wide from 6 yards after collecting Roberts’ centre.

Stanley went up the other end of the field immediately and won a penalty as Hatfield was brought down by Ritchie Humphreys. Danny Webber took the spot-kick but Lee guessed right to save his effort. Molyneux, though, was on hand to convert the rebound off the underside of the bar and double the advantage.

The winger thought he had a hat-trick when he fired through Lee’s legs but Murphy was offside in the build-up so the joy was short-lived.

Chesterfield were trying to get back into the game and almost did when Bettinelli’s save from Gnanduillet found its way to Roberts, who could only hit the debutant Buxton on the line.

The Reds were then handed a tough blow to their hopes of winning the game as Murphy was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Dan Gardner and was sent off with the Chesterfield man taken from the field on a stretcher.

That injury meant that there were seven minutes of added time at the end of the first half and the home side made the most of that time to grab a third goal with Molyneux completing a hat-trick.

A week short of a year since his previous treble against Barnet, the 25 year-old slid the ball past Lee with his right foot after pressure from Webber and Hatfield forced Sam Morsy into playing a poor pass across the face of his own penalty area.

With the referee about to blow for half-time, Ollie Banks lunged in on Gray, sparking outrage amongst the Stanley players with skipper Luke Joyce the most vocal protester. The two sides went into the break at each other’s throats after an incessantly entertaining and breathtaking opening half.

Stanley assistant Paul Stephenson and Chesterfield boss Paul Cook were sent off for their part in the fracas and were absent from their respective dugouts at the start of the second half.

Inevitably, it was the visitors who were making most of the running with their one-man advantage, but they could not transform their dominance and territory into clear-cut chances with Aldred, making his 50th consecutive appearance at centre back, outstanding.

Paul Cook threw on Jay O’Shea and Eoin Doyle with just over half an hour remaining in an attempt to rescue something from the game. First-half substitute Richards tried his best to reduce the deficit but his header was into the side-netting.

Stanley eventually found an opportunity to push forward and Molyneux looked to add to his treble with a strike from the edge of the area but it flew wide of the target.

Banks thought he had one back for the Spireites but his finish was ruled out for offside before he volleyed wide from 25 yards.

Ian Evatt, playing as an auxiliary centre forward, nodded wide at the far post under pressure from Aldred before pulling one back for the league leaders, sweeping home after Richards knocked a cross into his path.

As the clock ticked into five minutes of injury-time, the visitors piled on the pressure but Banks put a hat-trick of efforts wide of the target from distance.

O’Shea curled the last effort of the game onto the roof of the net as the Reds held on for a massive three points and their first home success since the 2-0 win over Fleetwood in November.

Stanley: Bettinelli; Buxton (Atkinson 70), Aldred, Winnard, Wilson; Hatfield, Murphy, Joyce, Molyneux; Gray (Odejayi 70), Webber (Windass 46).
Subs not used: Dawber, Naismith, Hazeldine, Bowerman.

I watched the game v Burnley today. Good game between two decent sides. 1-1 a fair result. I think Beppe is getting there with the Watford side, but it will be too late this season. 21 pts to play for (3 in hand) but now 10 points behind the play-offs. with other sides clustered above Watford also, the dropped points today along with Reading's win at Charlton pretty much finished any glimmer of hope the play offs were possible. Now Beppe has to keep hold of his squad, and build on his good work so far when the next season starts.

I can't believe how poor Stanley were today, Must win game V Northampton who sit next to the bottom of the table....said it all season "No point beating the teams way above you if you can'rt beat the teams below you" still sitting 6 points above relegation places but could have been 12 after todays results  with 5 games to go.  Should be ok but looking over our shoulders again.

Safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with Wycome playing Bristol Rovers today Stanley were almost certain to live to fight another day in League 2.

Now it's official.

Oxford Utd 1 Stanley 2

Stanley earned their first victory over Oxford at the tenth time of asking as they ran out winners at The Kassam Stadium to secure their League Two status.

James Beattie made three changes to the side that were beaten at Southend United on Easter Monday with Nicky Hunt, Josh Windass and Kayode Odejayi all named in the starting eleven.

The Reds came out of the blocks early on and almost took the lead through defender Tom Aldred, who saw his close range shot clawed round the post when forward for a corner.

The home side looked nervous defensively early on with Piero Mingoia causing problems down the left wing and Beattie’s side had another good chance 14 minutes in, but James Gray could only steer his header into the arms of Ryan Clarke.

Stanley’s dominance paid off and they took the lead four minutes later when the lively Gray danced past defender Michael Raynes, his effort was saved but Odejayi was able to tap home the follow up.

Oxford struggled to test Marcus Bettinelli but Josh Ruffels’ dangerous, deep cross from the left-wing saw the Stanley stopper backtracking but he was able to claim, as the on-loan Fulham man has for much of this campaign.

Just shy of the half hour mark, Windass stung the gloves of Clarke with a long-range effort, which the former Salisbury man juggled in the air and caught at the second attempt.

United failed to find any real rhythm with Ryan Williams looking their most likely output down the left.

With moments until the break, his perfect cross was met by the U’s top-scorer James Constable but the 11-goal striker dragged his shot well wide.

The Yellows began the second period brighter and had a glorious chance to level after Alfie Potter surged down the right, found Nicky Wroe who blasted wide from 20 yards.

That miss was to prove costly as James Gray grabbed his first goal since December when he doubled the Reds’ lead on 54 minutes firing in from a difficult angle after tricking his way past David Hunt.

On 67 minutes, Williams halved Stanley’s advantage when he latched onto a knock-on from the experienced Dave Kitson, took a couple of touches, and placed a calm finish past Bettinelli.

To their credit, the Lancashire outfit continued to attack as manager Beattie clearly believed his side could add to their two goals.

With 13 minutes remaining, Windass could have sealed the points for the visitors when he saw his low drive parried away by Clarke after a fine counter-attacking move.

After a strong performance from Windass, that effort was to be his final contribution of the afternoon as he was replaced by the more defensively minded Peter Murphy.

The visitors worked tirelessly until the final whistle, intercepting the U’s passes to ensure the game petered out.

Referee Keith Hill blew the full-time whistle to send the 117 strong visiting support home happy in the knowledge they will be watching SkyBet League Two football next season.

Keep the faith!

Pleased for you Alex, I know from experience it is like winning the league when your team avoids relegation. You get the Junction 10 visit next season. Kind of hoping we get them in the early rounds of the league cup. Instead of the usual 3 to 4000 it would mean a big crowd.

Quite content how the season went considering the management change. I think Beppe is heading in the right direction. I have managed to see a few games online as the season came to an end, and have been impressed with the tougher side to the team, althoigh they have been getting too many cards (another red today) - that needs to be improved. I think the Pozzos and their management team have learned what the Championship is about over 2 seasons. Now it is time to put it all together for the third season. It's looking like Deeney will go for circa 7 to 8 million which fits the Pozzo sell for big profit model - he signed initially for 250000. Udinese made something like a 40 million profit, after 8.8 million profit the previous season. These guys definitely know how to run a business, so the future bodes well. The new stand will be complete soon which will bring them up to Premier requirements again.

Thrilled for Sean Dyche at Burnley. Top, top man who deserves his success. I think Burnley may be favourites to land Deeney.

Pleased also for Hemel Hempstead Town FC who were promoted to the Conference South this week - their highest ever status. It's a shame it's the furthest distance possible for me from one side of Hemel to the other. I used to watch Chesham United when I lived in Chesham, and would go to Hemel's games if it was more convenient.

At least we have the fun of the World Cup this summer, so next season will not seem far away.
