Accy Staney were still 2-0 up the 88th minute against the League leaders Chesterfield earlier this afternoon...a goal in the 88th minute and an equalizer in the 90+4th minute cost up dearly...we need to play to the final whistle..switched off with 15 mins to go and cost us 2 valuable points.

Getting excited about tomorrow. Nice article about Watford's other famous supporter dragging his mates to his house to watch the game tomorrow.

Thanks chaps. A fair result, and a good day out with my brother. I do not see him too often, so that was fun. Palace should have won it in normal time and would have except for heroics by Almunia and Doyley. Sneaking extra time was tough on Palace. Great penalty from Phillips - that's the way to take em. Watford did not really turn up and did not threaten the Palace goal until the last seconds of extra time. A time to rebuild and make a few loan signings permanent. A fantastic season with an exciting finish which really should not have happened but Zola cobbled together an interesting side when we did not expect any more than mid table this season. They set some high standrads which will be a challenge to top next season.

Wembley stinks of expensive hot dogs.

I listened to the match on the radio. Defeat is easier to take if your side plays well but, Watford we're well below the standard they've shown this season. But, as you say Nigel, it's been a great season and there's plenty to look forward to. Onwards and upwards.

Watched the game and thought of you Nigel, like others have said Watford were well below par as i have seen them play a few times this season on the TV and played no where near what they are capable of.

Fingers crossed for next season

Accrington Stanley will play Middlesbrough in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The Reds will travel to the Riverside to tackle Boro in the week beginning Monday 5th August.

It will be the first meeting between the sides in their histories.

Might make the trip up...even though it's mid week

Nice draw for Accy. I hope you get there and have a great night. Watford are away to Bristol Rovers.

I remember when Watford played at Boro in the 3rd round of the league cup in 1999 there were so few of us from Watford that the radio announcer sent someone round to take our names, and they were read out over the tannoy as Watford's true supporters. Quite surreal. Not quite the lowest away crowd I remember. That will be a very foggy midweek 2nd leg league cup match at Roker Park in 1996 after Sunderland had aready won 2-0 at the Vic in the 1st leg. We counted just 26 of us. I used to love the away days. They were the best times as a football supporter.

Argyle drawn away to Birmingham so we won't get too far there (they beat us 5-0 at home in a friendly last year.Might see if I can get up to Exeter v QPR

Back with a bang today, the league season is underway. Sorry to see the results for Accy and Plymouth. Celtic and Watford off to good starts.

I listened to the Watford game on a Brummy radio broadcast - quite funny. Early days, but it sounds like Zola has his eye on our main weakness from last season - controlling games and not leaking late goals. We lost points in 8 games through this last season. That was the difference between play-offs and automatic promotion.

Brum threatened early then a neat Watford move led to Deeney starting his account for the season. The second half saw lots of Brum pressure and 6 mins stoppage time, but Watford seemed to be holding them well restricting them to meaningless half chances. It sounded a physical performance from Brum, so nice to know this Watford side can stand up to that and not cave in. A very good away result and start to the season.

I must admit, I was expecting more draws in the Championship. After one game we amazingly have 10 teams on 3 points!

Great away win for your boys Nigel...as you said not the greatest start for Stanley...thought we'd get something from the away trip to the new boys Newport.

Newport County 4 Stanley 1
Two goals from Chris Zebroski and efforts from Harry Worley and Christian Jolley ensured Accrington Stanley manager James Beattie’s first competitive match as a manager ended in defeat at Rodney Parade.

Danny Webber scored to pull one back for for the Reds but Newport were deserved winners in a fairytale start for the Welsh side, playing in the Football League for the first time in 25 years.

Newport started strongly and the Exiles had the ball in the net in the fifth minute after a goalmouth scramble, but Jolley’s effort was disallowed for handball by referee Darren Drysdale.

Stanley responded well two minutes later after debutant Webber flicked on a cross into the path of Peter Murphy, but the midfielder was thwarted by David Pipe from close range.

The hosts continued to press, and there was a nervous moment for goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin in the 12th minute after he spilled an innocuous cross from Zebroski in the box, but Nicky Hunt did well to clear.

Despite a vociferous home crowd, Stanley created some fine passing moves which included an excellent exchange between Webber and Will Hatfield, but the former Manchester United striker’s shot was superbly blocked by Ismail Yakubu – nephew of Yakubu Aiyegbeni, the former Everton and Portsmouth striker.

But the Exiles deservedly broke the deadlock after 23 minutes as a long throw from Adam Chapman was poorly dealt with inside the box and Worley duly stabbed home a left-foot shot.

Moments later, with the Reds visibly rattled, Newport should have added a second but Yakubu inexplicably headed wide from three yards.

Stanley then began their most threatening period of play and should have levelled in the 36th minute after a delightful chested pass from Lawrie Wilson found Webber free inside the six-yard box, but his touch was too heavy and his shot was well blocked by goalkeeper Jamie Stephens.

In the 42nd minute Newport doubled their advantage after a dangerous low cross from Jolley was fired in by debutant Zebroski to the delight of the lively County fans, but the goal was a cruel blow to Stanley who looked the likelier to score.

Beattie’s first ever half-time team talk did not appear to do the trick as Newport added a third in the 55th minute. Exiles chairman Les Scadding funded the signing of Jolley himself, and the striker repaid his boss as he tricked his way onto the edge of the area before he curled in a beautiful effort past Ian Dunbavin.

Ten minutes later Zebroski fired in his second of the game with a fantastic dipping volley from inside the area that was too powerful for Dunbavin in goal.

The Reds did pull a goal back to muted celebrations after a cross from substitute Luke Clark was touched on by Murphy before the ball fell to Webber who calmly netted a consolation on his debut for Stanley.

Brilliant, brilliant result for Accy winning 2-1 at Middlesbrough Alex - easily one of the best two of the night along with Newport's win at Brighton. Nice to see Piero scoring the winner - good lad. Shame about Plymouth's result Rob - looks like they gave Brum a good game. Sean Murray did himself some good with 2 goals in Watford's 3-1 win at Bristol Rovers. With several changes the young striker put himself in the spotlight with a good performance. He has been knocking on the door for a while, and I feel we will see more of him this season.

Sounded like you had a decent game today Alex. Shame about the Plymouth result Rob. I am obviously over the moon with the Watford game, and was thrilled to get along to it. What a game to get to!

1-1 at half time. 6-1 at full time and Troy Deeney's first hat trick for us, and the first Watford hat trick for ten years! It has to be said that Bournemouth were no mugs. Big and strong but capable of playing some good football. I thought 1-1 was a fair first half which was also entertaining. You could not have predicted the 2nd half. A change of tactics by Zola led to some breathtaking football which tore Bournemouth to shreds. The chant from Watford fans these days is "sexy football". It really was today! They look strong in depth - not just the first 11. Angella in central defence is awesome. It has been years since a Watford side was dangerous from set pieces. With Deeney on 4 goals, Angella has 3 also, so far this season. I was very impressed with Iriney in midfield. He works his socks off and wins the ball back a hell of a lot. McGugan looks a bargain as well.

Plymouth 0 Fleetwood 2

After initial Argyle pressure,Fleetwood scored on their first two breaks and Argyle were 0-2 down after 12 minutes. At least this gave Argyle 78 minutes to get back into the game which they tried with their first shot at goal after.....70 minutes resulting in the first cheer from the home crowd.
First home game of the season, and it looks like being another long season.
I expect Fleetwood to be around the top at the end of the season as hey look a good side, and as for Argyle? The team were still locked in the changing room an hour after the game-hopefully John Sheridan was forcing them to watch the recording of the game to show them how bad they were!
Things can only get better-I hope.
