Accy Staney were still 2-0 up the 88th minute against the League leaders Chesterfield earlier this afternoon...a goal in the 88th minute and an equalizer in the 90+4th minute cost up dearly...we need to play to the final whistle..switched off with 15 mins to go and cost us 2 valuable points.

Big congratulations to Steve Bruce's Hull City and their supporters winning promotion to the Prem.

I had a great time at the Watford v Leeds game despite the result. They still have the play-offs to look forward to with two matches against Leicester, then the winners playing the winners of the Palace v Brighton brawl at Wembley.

Biggest shame today was Watford's keeper situation with Almunia getting injured in warm up (he was named as keeper 15 mins before kick-off!), then about 15 mins into the game, stand-in keeper Jonathan Bond got a sickening injury forcing Watford to use a third keeper Jack Bonham. I hope Jonathan recovers quickly, but it looked a bad one, and his treatment meant the game was held up for a long time with 16 minutes added on at the end of the first half!

Deeney's silly two yellow cards that got him sent off did not help, and the ten men did try, but I think they were unsettled by what happened with the keepers, and that defined the game.

For me it was still a great day out and I enjoyed myself, and fingers crossed they can get to Wembley as I cannot make either play-off match. It was a rare treat for me, and my voice is half gone right now. I would love to get to more games each season. I miss live match day so much!

At least they are only 1-0 down after the 1st leg. Still some hope. Thought it was a decent game with both sides having some good chances prior to the goal. The cross for the Leicester goal was perfect. As soon as I saw it go in the box I knew it would be a goal. Deeney back for the 2nd leg will give us a goal scoring threat again.

Indeed, fabulous result for Wigan. I went to a gig up town last night and was on the 23:44 train home. It was packed with celebrating Wigan supporters. They had clearly had a great evening. 🙂

How exciting was that!!!!!!! What a great two egs of football. Credit to both sides. Thought Nugent was suerb for Leicester in both games, but Vydra today after a terrible run, found his form on the right day. That penalty and counter-attack! Incredible stuff and wonderful way to finish the game. One more game to play.

With all the excitement of the Almunia's double save from leicester's 97th min penalty, and Watford going straight up the other end for Deeney to thump in the winner, it is easy to forget that Matej Vydra's opening goal of the game was one of the goal's of the season. Quite stunning!

Sounds good Alex - hope he has the magic touch for Accy next season.

Watford v Palarse at Wembley in two weeks. Although not a local derby, it is not the friendliest of fixtures in the last 20 years.

James Beattie steps up to become first team manager
Accrington Stanley have appointed James Beattie as first team manager with immediate effect.

The 35 year old former Blackburn, Everton, Southampton and Sheffield United striker, who also had spells at Rangers, Blackpool and Stoke, joined the club as player/coach back in November and has now signed a two year contract to step up to the position of manager at the Store First Stadium.

James made over 400 Premier League appearances, scoring over 120 goals, and also has five England caps. Since joining Accrington Stanley James has netted seven times in 27 appearances.

Speaking about the decision James said "I am absolutely delighted to be offered the position, Accrington Stanley is a great club with a fantastic history and I am honoured to be given the opportunity to take us forward. My dad would have been very proud.

"Since I came in November the club has had me gripped, I have been waking up every morning looking forward to getting into work, everyone at Accrington Stanley- the lads, the staff, the board and the fans - has such a passion for the club and I love that about it.

"I am really looking forward to the challenge."

Well done to Bradford following their comprehensive win over Northampton at Wembley today.

I successfully booked tickets for my brother and I to have our day out at Wembley when Watford play Palace. It's not cheap. I had to wait for the season ticket holders to rightly have first dibs before getting access to the booking system today. Most of the cheap seats left were crap, so ended up getting two £64 seats (the middle of 5 seat categories).
