Had a superb night out at the Camden Roundhouse last night. Needed it as well - my life has been full on busy lately. It was a sort of week early birthday present from my missus to allow me to go. Did not get to one charity shop this week, so glad I snagged some graffs last night. Need to watch Doctor Who this morning, so my requests will be late this week.
The Camden Roundhouse is one of my favourite venues dating back years, and the modern makeover is very stylish in places. Last night was the 35th anniversary of Adam Ant first playing there supporting X-Ray Spex. Adam did actually made a public dedication to Poly Styrene who passed away 2 years ago.
Full on great show from all three bands. This was my sort of show, and why I always try to catch support bands. Too may artists use support who are clones of their own sound/style. This was brilliant - three very, very different bands. 15 mins between each band and finished at 22:55.
Alexa de Strange were first at 07:30. Six piece rock-goth-abba-opera-metal fun of the highest order. Great guitarist and amazing vocals. The blonde lead singer was incredible, and with brunette singer also there were some abbaesque moments. 🙂 Would definitely check them out again.
Next up were New Killer Shoes from Redditch. They actually won a competition run by Adam to support him on his entire tour. Very impressed with these young lads. They have a few videos which you can checkout -

I thought they played an excellent set, and were clearly popular with Adam's audience who really took to them. The lead singer mentioned they had an album for sale, so after they finished I popped out to the merch stall. They were shifting quite a few copies of the album when I spotted the lead singer, so I wandered over and got him to sign it. A few others took avantage of this and also got it signed. I was having a chat with him, and asked if the others would come out. He kindly texted them, and one by one they appeared, so I got the cd signed in person by all four band members on their own page in the cd insert. Not sure if many there got the last two band members, especially the drummer as he only appeared about a minute or so before Adam was due on stage. Enjoyed chatting to these lads - really nice guys. They have gone down well on the tour and Adam wanted them to continue on the American part of the tour but they could not afford it which was a shame. If you get the chance to see them or pickup any of their releases please do so.
I could not see an opportunity to meet Adam himself, so took advantage of the merch stall which was selling plenty of signed bits by him. They had vinyl copies of the lp signed for £40, the cd signed for £20 (I got this signed on a pre-order for half that), posters signed for £20, but ironically, the item I thought was the nicest was the cheapest. It was a 10x8 thick card B&W photo of Adam hand signed with official stamp embossed in the lower right corner, and only £10. I have quite a few bits signed by Adam, and he is a good ttmer, but I liked this, and so did the missus when she saw it. We will probably frame this.
I pushed my way quite central, and not too far back, so I had a decent view. Was a sell out show so was pretty busy. Adam played a blinding set mixing old with new. I love the new album, it is quite brilliant. He is a showman, and put on a great show. He did plenty from the new album, old stuff from Dirk & Kings, solo its and other stuff. I got my two personal favourites Press Darlings and Shrink, so was well happy. Mr Ant is definitely back, and long may he continue. A true star. Was buzzing afterwards and still am this morning.
